  • Weeeell not much going on in this section - So here's my Protos!

I seem to have a thing for Heli's that no one talks about on here lol. The Gaui forum is more dead than a typical dodo and this one doesn't fare much better...

So just to keep things ticking, thought I'd post some pics of my Protos! It's the 500 size but with Mini-style canopy....

    Specs:

    Scorpion 880kv Motor
    Cremations ICE lite 100A
Skookum SK-720 with dual Spektrum sats
    TM1000 Telemetry Module
    MKS DS9660A+ Cyclic Servos/MKS BLS990 Tail Servo
    Few Infinity/Duzi CNC upgrades

yep the protos 500 is a great heli, mine is just being rebuilt following a little incident. I find it very hard to see with the red/black canopy, so might have to brighten it up a little !

I have only just bought the 500 one myself, i have the plastic frammed version but WOW what a heli, it is 10 times better flying than a 500 and has no weight to it at all, it is a stonking machine and i love it

Thank you for the kind comments! I know many don't care for tidying the wires up, but I find it therapeutic! I enjoy the build almost as much as I enjoy flying so for me it's just all part of the fun.

The Protos is a lovely heli, lots of power and light weight. I've really enjoyed flying it the past couple of months... And the noise, so different to other Helis! Friends have commented on how cool it sounds lol.

I noticed that there have been many reviews of the newer mini-protos in heli mags recently, hopefully that will spark some interest in MSH... I really like their ideas and find it a shame that so few people here seem to be flying them.

Shades - yeah I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the newer canopy design. The original Protos canopy was very distinctive and visible, hence why I stuck with the design but I prefer the yellow of the mini-P so went with that.

Very nice indeed. Good work! I love the Mini-Protos coloured canopy on your Protos. Might I ask where you got that?

Currently I have the red/white/black CF canopy on my Protos, but I do not like it that much. The red colour tends to get dark (i.e. black) in the sky so it is a little difficult to see.

As of flight experience I find my Protos to fly clearly better than my "Frankenrex 500", both with BeastX. The Protos is very stable and agile at the same time, it it really perfect for my current needs... Some speak of a large Protos (600 or 700-ish) and this would be of interest if that happens. Seems like you always want to get a bigger one...

...also...I tried my best by spelling "colour" correctly when I am on this forum... ;-)

just getting to the wiring on mine, there seems to be plenty of room and there are some obvious routes for the cables. great design.

I have one that I have never flown (far too many shelf queens !) I went on a bit of a buy buy buy spree
but never seemed to get the time to fly, I bought it based on others I had seen and found them to look very capable and impressive
Maybe too capable in my hands hence i've not used it, I'm looking to thin my fleet down and it was on the list to go - maybe I shouldnt !!

Gruffy - It's a custom canopy that the previous owner made, I must admit I like the colour scheme better than the orange... the tail fins are fusuno of course. It's a very simple design, so any half decent custom canopy maker could do one for you easily enough.... you can pick up a blank white Fusuno canopy for about £12 at Fast-lad here FUSUNO Protos Fiber Glass Canopy White FUC-1067

Another different option is to get the partly painted polycarbonate canopy, It's a different design I know but you can then fill in the gaps with whatever colour you want... just buy a can of paint the right colour and spray! that one is here MSH51129 Polycarbonate semipainted Canopy Protos 30 grams

Terry - Give it a go, you might fall in love lol

Hehe...not for me then. I have never even tested to do my own canopy. If I did, and it became any good I am sure I would not dare to use it... Most of my friends do not make their own canopies either so I guess I will have to order the classic Orange canopy then...
                        Thanx for your answer!

well people who say they are fragile are wrong, mine had a head fit in the air today, and crashed, but no damage, after inspecting for damage and the fault found nothing, so took off to fly again where it had another head fit and crashed, was a gear in the servo had stripped in flight, damage was blades, tail fine and feathing shaft, thats it, shame i havent got a spare shaft so it wont fly tomorrow

Glad to hear it, and glad you got away without too much damage...

I was bored this evening, so I made my heli in Phoenix! Now it feels more real when I crash
