  • Protos Static Problem

Having some static issues with my plastic protos.

    Standard motor, align esc 60A

Fitted conductive boom case at front and removed coating from boom at front and back to allow discharge, fitted latest tail case etc.

Have tested with multi meter and good continuity from boom to motor mount but still having static problems, just wondering what else folk are doing to stop it?

Anyone had similar issues they've resolved?

    Cheers.

When I had my carbon protos, I just ran an earth wire which was clamped under the tail servo mount(Paint was rubbed away on boom) and ran it staright to the motor mount. Never had any problems after that.

      Hi,

Been flying a Protos for about 2 years with no mods, only the occasional application (2-3 times a year) of Graphit 33 on the belt:

I put gloves on a spray a bit onto some kitchen roll and apply to belt.

Keep getting a little kick in my tail, which I can't seem to get rid of, I wonder?

WD40 or silicone spray on the belt. Spray onto a tissue first to avoid grit pickup.
No probs and my belt is nearly 2 years old.

Belt generates a lot of static.
I've mesured 33v tension between the tail fin and the main frame!!
The VBar was all over the place, moving the tail servo and acting like mad. And I am using the conductive tail boom block...
I could see many sparks on the tail, and they even made a strong noise.

I put a small wire inside the tail case, connecting the bearing to the boom.
The tension droped to 9v and the sparks were gone.
Before this, even the antena of the receiver would make a spark when I put my hand near it.
Nevertheless, DON'T put WD40. It destroys rubber over the time. Use a food grade silicone.
