  • Is 120A enough?

I'm putting together a Protos Max v2 and after planning my electronics out I'm no longer sure a 120A HV ESC will cut it.

I (will) have an Align 750MX 530KV with a YEP 120A which I'll be running on 690mm blades at maybe 1700 - 1800 RPM. Looking
around on youtube and forums I see a lot of people are using stock 500kv motor and 160A ESC. But also some are using HW 130A and
    Castle 120A too - although with a 700MX 510KV motor.

MY thinking is that 120A would be enough for light/ mid 3D on these blades and maybe people were going with 160A because
they were either flying really hard and/ or were leaving enough overhead to move to 770 or 800mm blades keeping the same
    setups.

I'm just looking for conformation that a YEP 120A will suffice.

At those headspeeds and if you're not flying really aggressively 120amps should be totally fine. I had a Castle Ice 120HV on my Rave ENV and ran mostly around 1800 but as high as 2100 and never had amp peaks higher than the ESC could handle. Average amps were way way lower. 120amp was pretty standard for quite a while before the bigger ESCs started to arrive.

My TDR is flying on a Jive 80HV! But the headspeed is very low, about 1270 ish.

i am using a kontronik helijive 120a esc on my protos 800 @ 1350rpm and align 800mx 440kv, for light 3d and big air no problems so far, then again biggest peak I have seen is about 70amps and helijive can handle a bit more than what they are rated at. 120a esc's have been fine on trex 700's for years with no problem ,unless you plan on tamas style smack you will be fine.
