  • My new Max v2

Well after wanting a 700 size protos ever since I first saw the original Max I've finally gone and done it!

First impressions are very good. The kit arrived really well presented and it went together stupidly easily. This thing is built like a tank, very very sturdy and chunky and clearly built to take repeated abuse. Mine weighed in at bang on 6kg with batteries but it doesn't feel it in the air. Needless to say it handled the strong winds just fine!

    With its smaller brother

    I'm running;

    Switch 713mm main blades
    Zeal 110mm tails
    Scorpion 4535 500kv motor
    Castle edge 160 esc
    Align bl700hv brushless hv servos
    Align bl855hv tail servo
    Gryphon BEC
Spartan Vortex Vx1n (using v4 with e gov)

This really is the best helicopter I've ever flown, the fact it feels like it's been mine for years shows its the right one for me in my eyes! As soon as I can find one I'll be getting the new funky carbon boom for it.

There are lots of very nice touches on this, I like the thrust washer that takes the vertical load on the mainshaft, the auto belt tensioner, the huge magnets that hold the canopy on and I especially like the way it's totally overbuilt. It's a confidence inspiring machine that feels very much like it's built to last.

Very envious - I really like the look and design of them - and it makes your Protos look like a Micro

Yeah it does, that's actually a protos 500! It dwarfs a trex 700, heck it even makes my Avant Mostro look slender and lightweight! I'm just glad I took the opportunity to upgrade electrics when I bought the mostro as I don't think aan align 750mx and a Castle ice 120 with old lv align ds610 servos would have faired very well!!

I'm getting just under 4 mins on 2000rpm but I'm a fan of sudden pitch reversals and flipping loops etc so fairly current heavy.

Yeah - I've got a Protos and recognised the canopy and skids, I hadn't noticed that you were in Didcot - I'm in Henley. If only it wasn't sh*t weather I would have loved to nip over and see it in the flesh - I've been following the threads on HF and they look fantastic..

Very jealous, if I had the time and the money that's the heli I'd be buying without any doubt, love the ethos behind the design. It's like having your best heli also be the perfect beater, just designed to be flown and flown and flown.

I love the mini photos & this 700 has been on my cards for a while. The Realflight 7.5 model even flies awesome.

Your Protos looks great. I recently killed my Forza and having had a Max before ordered another one. It goes together so well and with the Power Bus wiring is super clean. Only had 3 flights today but I remember the grin from the last one. The belt drive leads to one smooth Heli and seems smooth throughout a wide rpm. Top Heli really please with it.

Mine weighs in at 5.55kg which is lighter than my last one. Tbh it doesn't feel heavy the geometry and weight distribution must be spot on.

Thats a very clean install Maj!! I need to re-think my cabling as at the moment my cabling all exits from the rear of the helicopter. I might try that power bus and rotate my vortex 180deg.

In the meantime I have fitted the optional carbon fibre boom and white lower frames. The boom is massively solid, its almost 6mm thick solid carbon where it bolts to the frame and the tail servo mount is integral. The team pilots (and anyone else who flys smack!) report it firms the tail right up, which bearing in mind the tail on this is one of the strongest feeling out there already! I can't tell any difference but I dont (can't!!) smack it about!

I have also fitted the harder red dampers as my stock black ones were done at 50 flights! The thing flies on rails to say the least!

I like the idea of the Power Bus, its a pitty they don't do them for other helis.

The carbon boom looks great. I'm waiting for the evolution package to be released. Seems MSH is pretty serious about pushing forward with this Heli. Looks and flies great. Any other manufacture would charge £7-800 for this kit. At basically £400 without the brain it's incredible.

I just think a lot of people don't want to pay £800+ for a kit, which is why this is doing well - it seems very popular across the pond too.

It's not about being able to afford the price tag, but its about the way you treat a model when you know the rekit cost!

Having looked over Mj's build the other day I have to say that the Powerbus concept is superb and makes the wiring of the heli super neat.

It's a very nice looking heli.

I am curious about the weight of the max without electronics.

                              Can someone give this info?
