Protos Max V2

Just whipped together this Protos Max V2 yesterday and this morning. This must have been designed by someone that actually flies helicopters it's so well thought out. Build was pretty good everything lined up and fitted. There were a couple of bolts missing/over and 2 bearings missing for a follower arm but no biggie. This thing is solid reminds me more of a Logo Xxtreme than a Trex. With that solidness does come weight. In 700 form mine weighs a whopping 5.65kg which to me that's heavy. Tbh I'm not even going to fly that and immediately stretched it to 800 so with 770's its 5.8kg which is about the same as a goblin and much lighter than a logo.

Nice machine, easy build looking forward to flying it. Under the hood is Kontronik and 14s so should have some beans.

I really, really like the look of that heli, it just seems very well thought out. Simple, clean design, with some great ease of use touches. I love the idea of a canopy that just pops on and off, watching people struggle with Goblin canopies has really put me off those. Convenience for me is far more important than looks.

I still can't afford a 700 yet, but this one is top of my wish list. And the power bus MSH have planned for it later in the year looks like a great idea too.

The price is right on this one. If I get rid of my E700 next year, this and the Logo 700 (plastic) are top of the list to replace it.

I have to say I've had a few models and I'm very impressed with this one. I was a bit skeptical of my final flying weight but I headed out to the field yesterday. Maiden was flawless and this thing is so smooth not a bobble, jiggle through the tail nothing just planted. After 10secs of hovering (that was enough) idle 2 and flew like I've had it all year. What a machine, great presence, cyclic feel and collective pop. Ok it's not lacking with 14s and good gear but no doubt this heli is built to take a beating. this was with Cyclone 715 and 770 due to arrive on Tuesday. Disc loading is naturally higher than I'm used to but had an absolute blast with it.

Any pics under the hood mj?

Ignore my esc motor wires bit scruffy as I'm waiting on some direct connections to arrive. Servo layout is easy with no trim arms included. Another nice feature is you don't need to take the gearbox apart to remove the belt. Just remove the idler on top and it slips off the side then you can remove it.

Tbh it felt great with the Cyclone 715's on there very pleased with it. My 14s setup isn't as heavy as you might expect. I run 7s 3700 packs which weigh 1.45kg for the pair. The ESC may be a bit heavier but that's about it. you could definitely build a lighter setup though. The price for what you get is astounding. Basically £400 if you sell off the Brain. You can't buy anything else brand new to compare you would have to go up to £600+.

The other thing is I can't see anything that needs upgrading spot on out the box. I need to bash it around a bit now but pretty sure it will hold up fine.

How is the head-swash geometry? Does it give a neutral feeling without any bad tendencies?

How is it so heavy? there are very few parts to it and the layout is (obviously) very similar to my protos 500 which is barely any heavier than the average 450! I realise this one now has dual belt drive rather than single but it looks like it should be very light.

Geometry with the Vbar is within range but on the low side. It flies without any strange tendencies quite the opposite it's very accurate and confidence inspiring.

Weight wise it does appear to be light however the metal work is beefy, main gear beefy in fact it's all beefy and does add up. This is never going to be the lightest 700 but does fly remarkably well.
