  • Diabolo 800+

OK, so Im about to take the plunge and get into this Minicopter thing. I've been flying Logo's mainly and currently have a 700xx and a 550 (new plastic frame version) which I have just crashed and precipitated the purchase (or iminent purchase) of a used 800+ airframe from a member on here.

My question. This is going to be a bit of a project as I will be cannibalising my 550 Logo electronics to fit this Diabolo - fitting really given the name I have Savox servos, 1258TG on cyclic and 1290MG on tail, a Tribunus 130A and Neo FBL > Vcontrol Touch. I also have a Scorpion 4024 1100KV which apparently I can't use (Shaft is 5 x 32mm and I understand I need a 6 x 28mm) soooo, I am considering my options on motors. I'm looking at the Xnova 4530 450KV and the Pyro 800 48 but am open to alternatives? I would like to keep my 12s setup for now and mainly fly sport flying with light 3D but want this to be a low RPM / long flight machine.

Also, is the Diabolo a costly Heli to maintain in comparison to the Mikado machines?

    Any pointers, tips, comments?

    Thank you for your advice.

I have a Triabolo 700 and got the airframe 2nd hand in (I think) 2014. It has been literally perfect with zero maintenance required.

Originally I had an overkill power setup with a Kosmik 160, first motor was a Hacker Turnado, which worked fine but was getting quite hot under that canopy. Then I got a Pyro 800 which ran cool and worked fine. But it became clear that the Kosmik and Pyro 800 was overkill for my flying, so I swapped over to a Jive 120 and Dekker Pyro 700-530 geared quite long using a 13 tooth TDR pinion.

I think my idle-1 headspeed is about 1400.

In my experience the Triabolo is the most 'on rails' precise heli I have ever flown. I can only speak first-hand about the three blade 700 but I suspect the two blade 800 would be quite similar.

The Pyro 800 is a great motor. When I took it off the Triabolo it has a new home on my Shape S8.
