  • Are used Helicopter models selling ??

I've just finished building a new Logo 600SE but sadly Ill health means that I'm having to look to letting it go even though it's only had a couple of shakedown flights. But are heli's actually selling these days as I'm really not keen on giving it away for a bargain bucket price.

This has been a project that I've been promising myself to build for many years, and I've taken the very best of the Logo 690SX and 600SE and merged them into a single machine. In short it's a 600SE with a full 690v2 head machine that will fly on a very low headspeed if required. In the two flights that it's had I've achieved flight times of 14 minutes with 18-20% left in the 12s pack. Very impressive. Of course it can be set to a higher headspeed but with shorter flight times.

With the expansion of interest in quads and drones, I'm wondering if it's worth my while selling it or just wrapping it up and putting it in the loft ??
It cost around 1800 quid to build. Any thoughts on weather I should bother ?

    Cheers

My opinion for what it's worth: They will sell if priced 'right'. Based on experience for a heli that's been flown a few times but is mint condition 'right' is something close to 50% of retail price. You can put away of course but the value will only go one way, so it only makes sense if you realistically expect to use it again in the foreseeable future.

Break it and sell individually, a pain but you'll recoup more of your spend that way.

you'll get nothing for the time and care & attention to detail that you put into your model unfortunately AND everyone is looking for a bargain these days

+1 on splitting, ive sold a few helis and planes recently and its been easier to sell aiframes than rtfs. The 50% rule is a good starting point but recently its been a lot less even tnough new prices have increased.

Tried selling one of my helis on ebay, lots of watchers and only low ball offers. Whilst an RTF heli looks expensive I looked at all the sold prices for all the components and priced it at what they go for (not maximums). Been selling the components seperately and got more money than what I was asking for RTF and still have the airframe! Ebay has its place but seems to be more on the buyers side these days.

The other issue is that selling RTF on ebay, some n00b could buy it and crash it and say it didnt work or whine to ebay and cause some rigmarole you'll have to go through. Especially concerning FBL programming.

Posting components is easier. If you use ebay make sure you make small marks on items or serial numbers and photograph them to stop people returning identical non working components.

Sorry to hear of your ill health, must be very frustrating. I wish you the speediest of recoveries.

If you aren't going to fly it, then sell it now. Now is the time when it's worth the most it will ever be. As far as I know, there's never been a helicopter air-frame that appreciated in value over time.

If you stick it in the loft, all you'll find in a few years is something that's worth less (probably much less) than it's worth now. Especially if things like shafts and bearings are likely to rust.

                  Split it into:
                  Blades
Airframe and spares, possibly include tail blades if they're nothing special
Motor (if it's not model specific - eg the Logo 690SX motor is a 390KV 4525 which isn't much use in most other 700s)
                  ESC
                  Cyclic servos
                  Tail servo
                  Flight controller
                  Lipos if applicable.

That way, even if the air frame isn't everyone's cup of tea, the rest is almost brand new and should sell quickly, as long as its priced right.

Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

I'd say keep it. Use it as an incentive to overcome any health difficulties (if possible) and fly when you can and when you're motivated.

Then if you decide you're no longer going to fly it, get a big perspex case for it and treat it as an objet de art.

This is a picture of the heli. Sounds like I'll need to break it down. Sad really.

                        It's pretty.

Strip and sell the electronics, and put the air frame on display.

If you ever want to fly it again, you can always pick up some new electronics. I doubt servo and motor sizes will be changing any time soon.

I'm seriously considering buying up all these unwanted helis and turning them into ceiling fans. I reckon the hipsters would lap them up.
