  • Castle auto-bailout and Neo on express

    Hi all,

I'm trying to setup my Logo 550SX with autorotation bailout using the Castle governor.

But without the "Pro Governor app" (https://www.vstabi.info/en/node/1679) I can't see how to achieve this?

Am I being stupid, or do I need the Pro firmware to enable the autorotation bailout in the Castle?

Honestly I know nothing about vbar. But if you are using castle gov it should just be a case of selecting autorotation enable in the castle software and setting your throttle hold 'curve' in the tx to suit. I believe mine is around 18%

I would think you either use the vbar governor OR the castle governor as well as bailout - the latter I would think requires the use of external governor in your vbar ... I don't think a mix of features from 2 controllers is at all possible ...

You need the ESC output options for the Castle bailout to work, and even then, I'm not sure it's possible.

As someone who used to run the Castle gov, and then the Vbar gov. Just skip the Castle gov completely, and have the Vbar do the governing and the auto bailout. Even without any tweaking, it's way better than the Castle offering. With tweaking (Pro firmware required), it's quite frankly amazing.

If you don't have a Castle Edge (say you have an Ice2), it costs about £4 for an RPM sensor, and then you're away.

It's possible, I've already done it on my G630. It's just that the expert "ESC output options" aren't available under Neo Express 6.1

I've just upgraded to "Pro Rescue" and now I can see the throttle values for bank 1,2,3 and auto-bailout. TBH, seems like a bit of a swizz that you need to upgrade the Neo to be able to set the throttle value for auto-bailout.

Express comes with E-governor and bank switching now (both needed Pro on V5) so they expect you to use it as such.

Fair enough, don't use it if you have a Jive/Kosmik or Hobbywing V4 if you don't want as those have excellent governors, but the Castle gov is so far behind it's almost laughable.

So why are you running the Castle gov?

The Castle governor works well enough for me. I've really never had a problem with it, and it means not running an extra wire to the FBL. Yes, the Edge ESCs have the AUX wire which makes life simpler, but the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind.

Fair enough, but didn't you just move over to Vbar/V control from Spartan? Was the Spartan broken?

I'd look on that move as an opportunity to try out the Vbar gov. After all, you're already going to be doing a full set up on every model you move over.

No, Spartan worked absolutely fine. But I wanted "rescue" and whilst I waited for a while for a firmware update to support it, the recent announcement about Jeti integration made me realise that Angelos' development priorities were elsewhere. So I decided to change. Sod's law says it'll now come out now I've pretty much committed myself. Oh well, my DX8 was looked tired anyway, so a nice new VBC is a bonus!

Like I said, I see nothing wrong with the Castle gov, so see no reason to change. Yes, I know others are better - I'm using the Kontronik on my E7SE, but it's not that much of a difference if I'm honest.

I may check it later, but for now I just want to get my helis setup.
