  • Logo 550sx tail slider not smooth

IThe tail slider on my 550 doesnt seem as smooth as it should be.

I have tried with and without oil.

I have tried buffing with a dremmel but no luck.

    Any ideas?

i have tried the polishing but not really helped. Is reaming ok or will it leave the slider too rough?

The brass bush can be reamed with dremel to take the sharp edge away where it runs along the shaft as per my rough sketch. It's the tiniest bit but I've exaggerated it to show. Also take blades off and run motor up you can polish the tail shaft with metal polish and cloth whilst it's spinning

You can buy a hand reamer that may be better than the dremmel from most Paskins outlets / engineering supplies . I have done mine in the past but very carefully . Ive also used Brasso which is very slightly abrasive .

If you're worried that a reamer is too harsh, I've always had good success rolling up wet n dry sandpaper into a tube and running that in and out of the brass collar.

Seems disappointing that you would have to do this on what's supposed to be a well engineered high quality heli?

Most Helis need some fettling it's not unusual. Brass is a very soft metal. Remember mikado is not a boutique Heli like say tdr, Kasama, HD etc

Maybe I've just been lucky but other than one cheap Align clone from Hobbyking the sliders on the tails of all my helis (and I have a fair collection these days) have been nice and smooth.

I find tail hubs and sliders on most heli's have occasional problems , but generally on all the models Ive built and owned they have been OK .

Cheers for the advice people, I'll give the wet and dry a try first as it seems the least harsh.

tbh never really had to fiddle like this on any off my heli's.

Not really an issue now I know what to do.

Same here. I've not had to do it on every model, but I have on a few over the years. I've never had a serious issue with them though.

Very fine wet and dry, I use 2000 grit polishing grade, on the tail shaft and on the brass bush, then polish it to perfection with Autosol metal polish.....you can get an amazing finish and the slider will literally fall up and down the shaft...!!

Better that they are made so that they are slightly too tight, you can make them perfect then - rather than fitting like a ****-in-a sock....!!!

Well i've given it a go along with a few other things, but its still not as smooth as I would like, and it binds at one end.

I've also buggered up one of the ball joints....
