Mark. I am talking to a guy on ebay hes got a good condition DX6i hes not sure what mode it is i want a mode 2 he says its a DSM2 does that mean anything.

ask him if the throttle stick is on the left
or does the left stick stay at the position its pushed to and not spring back to the centre
if so its mode 2

Futaba can be fine as well, depending on which one you are looking at, but the reason I suggest Spektrum is you will be able to fly the various small Blade Bind and Fly helis like the mSR or the mCPX using the same transmitter which is not the case if you go Futaba.
