    Hi Matt,

The skids are definitely supposed to be on the inside of the frame, open up the manual and have a look at page 8 where it shows this. Plus I think they would look a bit strange mounted on the outside!

I think as long as you have had some experience with heli's you will be fine. The manual has plenty of detail on the more complex parts of the build, the only bits where you need to improvise are where it hasn't detailed the exact size of bolt required, I have found it quite easy to locate the correct bolt but haven't done a final fix on anything until I am sure. Then if I find a bolt in the wrong place it is easy to swap out. The main thing here though is the forum, if you come up against any troubles everyone on here is always happy to help out, plus now I have built one I would be happy to lend some advice.

I am looking forward to getting the Ebar set up and will let you know how that goes! (I have never set one up before so we may be in the same boat here!)

I will be putting one of each of the heli's just arrived for display so that should prove interesting. At least if someone wants one ready made I'll then have one to send or for collection. Build time for a little extra on the price. Nothing silly!!!

          Hi All,

So since my last post I have got the Chase fully set up and she has flown, albeit quite briefly.

Setting up the E-Bar was much easier and more intuitive than I thought it would be, the manual was clear and explained every step very well. Some of the Chinese to English translations were quite interesting but always made sense eventually!

Now, when it came to the maiden this wasn't quite so smooth, keep in mind I have never flown or set up a flybarless heli, every time the heli spooled up it would just tip over, this seems quite obvious now that the unit was working the wrong way and something needed reversing. However, I went through the whole manual again and could not find where I had gone wrong, until it eventually clicked that the pictures in the manual were infact the wrong way round, see image below,

Looking at this page in the manual I had installed the unit in my Chase in the 'rear' configuration and so this is what I set it as when setting the unit up. However, I quite quickly figured out that this is incorrect and although the unit was installed in the heli as 'rear' I had to change the setting in the unit to 'front' and all worked fine.

Annoyingly, the initial tipping over had damaged the tail linkage and I didn't have a spare link with me so had to take it home and have since fixed and had a quick hover in the garden and she flew! So this was definitely the problem, so to anyone setting one of these up just take note of the above and that in-fact the 'front' and 'rear' configurations are opposite to what the manual says!

Hopefully, I will get out in the week to finish setting up the cyclic and tail gains ready to take some videos next week and really see what this machine is capable of!

Thanks Will. I'll put an addendum/warning note in the models I ship just to make sure this error is noted and they don't fall into this trap

Is the general findings of other builders and I wonder if there's anyway to test this error without having to lift off first

Testing is easy on the ground. Just power up the system and move the heli, the gyro should compensate in the opposite direction for every movement to try and keep the heli level. Most FBL systems tell you this in the manual, I'm wondering if the EBAR manual is missing this in the translation to english?

I was just about to say the same thing Pete, I should have done this and made the mistake of assuming it would be correct as I had set it up as per the manual! I just checked and the manual does have this in right at the end. Should have read that bit, whoops! Anyway, as long as Ian can update the manuals in the kit's he has no one else should make this mistake! Im looking forward to getting it up in the air properly now!

How are you getting on with yours Pete?

I'm loving mine. I'm only a sport flyer so don't have the ability to push it hard, but it's exactly what I was after. I've got about 30 flights on mine now. The first stage belt is wearing faster than I'd like so there is black dust around the gears, but not as bad as some reports and I'll get the GT2 upgrade kit as soon as it's available here to sort that out. There's also a new motor mount and second stage pinion which get all the belts running centrally which will be good too.

Good to hear that yours is all sorted and you are happy with it now as I know you also had a few teething problems! I have noticed on mine that the 1st stage belt doesn't quite sit centrally, not sure if this makes any difference to the running or if it is just an aesthetic thing though! Will be good to see how these evolve over time as it definitely has the potential to be a great heli and is very nearly there!

Where have you got the balls on your servos set around the swash? Did you keep them at 15mm or take them down to 12mm in the end? and what gain setting did you end up with. Just to give me some sort of starting point when I get to setting up gains etc, would be a great help!

The main issue is the first stage belt not lasting very long at all when flying the heli hard. It was designed with GT2 belts but KDS changed them for cheaper MXL belts. Now I don't really understand fully why one is better than the other but the MXL belts aren't lasting well.

I left my servo horns at 15mm, but had to drop the cyclic gain on the KBar quite low, I think it ended up about 45 on Kbar. I din't use the EBar but you may need to lower that as well. Mine just went crazy when coming out of a loop or flipping inverted until I lowered the gain. The other issue I had was some odd problem with the governor not working properly but switching it off sorted that. I need to try resetting the ESC and re-enabling the governor to see if it was a set issue.

I will see how the belts last on mine then and upgrade if needed, I plan on flying it quite aggressively once I get used to it so will be a good test of durability!

Thanks for the advice, I will leave the horns at 15mm and see how I get on with the gain, I thought it would need to be quite low with the horns this far out. I have got the governor set on the ESC so will see how I get on with that as well.

Hoping to get a few set up flights in this week and then take it to the field at the weekend for some proper flying. I Will report back with how I get on.

Modelbau UK , it's nice to have a supplier of chase parts fairly close to me but do you guys ever answer the phone or even respond to answerphone messages ? My parcel did eventually arrive today and THANKYOU but you really need to look at your postage options again as for a tiny package I had to pay £5.50 postage and due to your choice of courier being un reachable it took ten days to arrive. Please consider Royal Mail at least they leave the parcel somewhere you can collect it from. Good luck I hope things work out for you in hampshire

Hi. Sorry you're disappointed with the service. Your order was received at 11.15 PM Friday night and posted on Monday 13th via Hermes. I take your point regarding using Royal Mail. Hermes are normally quite good but as we require a signature upon delivery this may have delayed you receiving your items. We tend to use Hermes and they are normally quite good. Post office trip would have been necessary if you were not in when they tried to deliver.

Small parcel is a flat rate. Small low cost items same price unfortunately to post as more expensive items of same weight & dimensions

Sorry I missed your voice mail on Saturday, we don't open on Saturday although I normally do call back if I see the message. Family weekend so was a bit tied up. Only got the one message Don

It's not the end of the world Ian but as a working guy I cannot be at home to sign for parcels. Hermes left blank cards every time with no reference or contact details and quite frankly they couldn't give a toss. The post office is around the corner so no hardship there. I only left one message dude but I tried to call twice today with a view to coming over to four marks to pick up some bits. I will use you again but would rather collect in person
