Got myself a Srimok :-)

Hey guys,

I picked myself up a srimok 90n cyber yesterday, 2nd hand but its mint and total heli porn LOL! I am in the process of stripping it down and rebuilding at the moment! So I got a list of questions for you Kasama guru's!

First of all I have never used and dont own a dial gauge and I know this is needed for fitting the fan so could someone please explain how they work.

I need a few spares for the heli and I want to get a few new parts where is the best places to order from? Seen readyheli.com but the bits I want are out of stock!

Ok as for the running gear I have just ordered a YS120sr engine, i am looking at bls451's for the cyclics and i cant decided on a FBL unit ( i have always used align 3g,3GX and beast x but stuck with 3GX in the end i have nothing against the 3GX as i love it but i think it's a srimok it needs to have something that little more in it) i am think v-bar but are they a pain in the ass to set up?

any other tips advice you can think i need it will be very much appreciated

Good man ,welcome to 'club kasama' , I only dial the starter shaft once it's fitted to the engine,There's no adjustment on the fan , make sure the starter shaft is the new type ( it has a hex on the top where the starter coupling fixes).I use a beastx but I'm sure a 3gx will work fine. You may need to change the gear ratio if using a 120. I have found these models need to be well built , ie meshed correctly and balanced, I now have 3 of these so can't fault them, ENJOY.

Good choice, you will really love it. A fbl Srimok with a YS120 will be ballistic.

I wouldn't worry about the dial gauge if I were you. I never used one, you don't need it.

Get your spares direct from the factory, as long as they read your email, they come in a week. If you don't get a response to your email, then follow it up, they sometimes miss them.

Regarding FBL unit, I have put a CGY750 on mine. Srimoks tend to be prone to vibe issues, and the CGY750 sensor is not very sensitive to vibes. If you use a CGY750 and your model has a rear mounted sensor mount with the fuel pipe damping, then neutralise it by screwing it down to the bottom. The CGY750 does not need the extra damping, it just causes problems.

Mercurial has made a few good videos on Helifreak regarding set up of dampers, engine alignment and gear meshing. They are well worth watching.

Can't give any advice on the nitro but check Midlands before you shop anywhere as they still have some stock so you may get lucky.

There are plenty of places in Europe to buy spares from as well. 3drotor.com helistore.at Rc-city.de As well as espirit and ready Heli.

I use a vbar on mine, and as long as you don't get vibes it is superb. When you do get vibes it can be a pain as the Srimok has so many adjustable things and dampers it can take a while to track it down. View that as an advantage or disadvantage, entirely on you. If you stick with it long enough to learn how each adjustment affects performance you have one of the ultimate tunable helis. Or you could view it as a royal pita. I can tell you this it will always be engine vibe related (maybe leading to other things). Once you set a Srimok E up it just works. A Srimok N is definately not like that, but few nitros are.
I also deal in spares in a non profit sort of way if you need something fast.

Thanks for the usefull information guys keep it coming LOL! i cant wait to tinker around with it, i got a 700N FBL to fly all the time so the srimok will inbetween flights till i get it how i want it! i might 3GX it as i can set them up with my eyes shut! LOL!

As for the gearing on the Ys120 what do i need it to be??

The Y S 120 has loads of torque, so about 8.1 is ideal, better still 7.6-1..........

ratios available (afaik) are:

8.17:1 (98T)
8.25:1 (99T)
8.33:1 (100T)

I am not disagreeing with the torque increase with the YS120, but as I understand it, that will mean less likelyhood of bogging or the ability to run bigger blades at the same h/s without bogging. The ratio you choose will give you a range of h/s possible according to the usable rev range of the engine. The h/s you require will depend on the type of flying you want to do. I would expect the YS120 to be capable of running any 90 size blades at any of these ratios without bogging.
I run YS 91 SRS at 16000 rpm with 8.25:1 Optifuel 30SLV and Rotortech 710s. You can sustain tictocs in any orientation without bogging when it is on song.

7.6 is achievable with a 99 main gear and a 13 tooth pinion ( which is a special order from the factory).
