  • Getting to love the TDR , Video

Hi All I have got to say I am getting more impressed with the TDR the more I fly it . I love the direct feel and the lift and direction change it has a 1700 on the head. I can get 7 mins flight with over 30% left in the batts doing very mild 3d. I have a next D motor and a scorpion ESC fitted currently . I have picked up a piro and a jive but I am not sure if its worth fitting them as I never expected this efficiency on the scorpion set up . Here is a a vid of 7 mins of flying, It was fairly windy and the footage is not the best but it gives an idea of the flying style .

    Looks good Jason.

Nothing like a Tdr. The design was ahead of its time. Simple and light.

What I am finding is that at lower headspeeds the amount of power needed gets very modest. I have had to completely adjust my thinking because coming from the flybarred mindset I was always aiming for 1900 ish and I am finding that I can run much lower and still do the same kind of flying and the upshot is way lower amps drawn.

With the Diabolo / Triabolo the trend is to use huge motors on them and I already had a Hacker A50 'Turnado' so I thought it couldn't hurt to try it even though I figured I'd probably need a bigger motor. But it works great! And the Triabolo is a bit heavier than the TDR. I am able to fly with everything from 3500mah to 5000mah packs and I can get 6 minutes on 3500s doing the smooth 'big air', sport flying, whatever you want to call it.

The Tri is only running at about 1400 rpm and the Rave is at about 1600 and my average amps are between 35 and 45 with very brief peaks touching 95-110. I was really surprised to see those figures. If you want that serious 'pop' for hard 3D flying though you'll easily pull double those amp figures.

My new to me TDR should be at mine Tuesday next week and I have to say that I can't wait to get it flying, shame i'm away from home for another 2 1/2 weeks!! I was well impressed when I had a go with Maj's TDR just before xmas, lower headspeed but still had so much power. Just by coincidence it's the very same heli that i've just bought including the Xera motor that was in it when Michael sold it!! Very happy.

Nice flying Jason, lovely field as well.
