  • What comes after an mcpx?

    Any advise on what Helios compliment an mcpx I am at a stage now where I am comfortable with hovering in all orientations (although still need to think about it) but seem to spend more time fiddling with the mcpx and all the vibes it gets. I am very keen to build from scratch but have a few points I need help on...

    What size is more stable than an mcpx but still cheap to fix or is most crash resistant?

    Do all hellis need upgrading like the mcpx and it's mods?

    Any tips from you guys that have already been there and done that?

    I've recently gone up to a 450 pro from an mcpx and I find it's very stable. Parts are less than the mcpx as you usually get packs of two, but you will break more in a crash!

      The Blade 130X technically when it's out. The mCPX is unlike other helis as it can withstand impacts without normally suffering damage.

      Although a 450 size sounds more like what you're after, check out the Blade 450 range. The Blade 450's do not need any mods and fly great out of the box.

      The 450's are more stable in the air, easier to see and have more power for when you need it.

          Still not sure how I will get this past the missus but confident it will happen at some point!

          Is the 130x just a slightly larger brushless version of the mcpx? If so I would consider going bl on the mcpx first

            It's a bit more than that, you can see more info here:

            Bigger, brushless, 2S power and a torque tube tail drive with a variable pitch tail rotor.

            All I can say is I can't wait to get one to fly .

                I think I would love a 130 but as its not out yet I am unsure about it. I like the idea of using a mcpx as a real life sim and then transferring that to a larger heli.

                  450 is a great bet, but be aware that all that flying you probably do in the house and garden will be out and you'll be needing to find somewhere to fly it

                    I do have a local park with a fly zone but the idea is to join a club at some point

                      What is the average build cost for a 450 and the average repair cost... Wondering if to go with known brand or clones. Considering I am still at the steep end of the learning curve what's the cheaper route?

                        a blade 450 would be your best bet as someone's mentioned. it's plastic so it will be more forgiving in a crash and being horizon hobby, their customer service is 2nd to none!

                        but the 130x is also a good choice - i can't wait to get it and it will serve as my small backyard heli and get rid of my 450 pro and get something bigger.

                          Hey I went with the trex 450 pro V2 3GX combo kit and after adding a receiver and sat from blade heli spares (£35), charger (£40) and batteries plus set up tools mine cost around £475 all in. So far my average repair cost is £12. I have had 3 "incidents" with mine and its had 2 sets of front torque tube gears(panic landing), a torque tube and some bearings replaced.

                          I'm currently hovering in the garden (9mx16m) and doing circuits and bad 8s at the field I go to but find the 450 size a lot more stable in the air than the MCPx.

                            Trex 450 pro would be my choice. Easily transportable, cheap and fantastic to fly!

                              I have the normal Blade 450 and i find that incredibly stable and solid also it being E-Flight the parts are very cheap and easy to replace, also the 450 will help you progress into forward flight and aerobatics without having to worry about the wind, which is a problem with an mcpx
