  • Moving on from mSR - So mCPx or mSRx

I'd appreciate views on the above. I've had an mSR for a while now, flying mostly indoors and I'd like to have something flybarless. I'd like to keep indoor flying (or just hovering practice) as an option, but will also be outside sometimes.

There's not much in it price-wise but the other factor is that I don't have a DX6i so I'll be flying with the packaged RTF transmitter.

I've read mixed reviews on the mSRx but see that the mCPx is largely well received. I would like to be able to loop, which it seems both are capable of.

    Advice welcomed.

    Thanks in advance.

MCPX - the MSRx, as good as it undoubtedly is, is still a FP beginner heli. Looping it would be a challenge, I have no idea if it can be done or not, but ultimately it will be be just more of the same.
MCPX on the other hand is an entirely different beast and you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

      Thanks Paul

Do you know if the mCPx is flayable with the stock RTF transmitter?

        Hi.

If you have an mSR, really, you would be wasting your money on an mSR X. Two options really - the cheaper option is the RTF kit with a DX4e @ circa £150 ( no computer radio - less options for tuning the heli) or a DX6i mCP X combo @ circa £210 (full tuning capabilities and programming to make flying as a beginner alot easier. If your budget can stretch to a DX6i, it's worth getting it earlier on.

Either way, you'll be happy - but the DX6i would make your life a lot easier.

If you need any further advice - feel free to give us a call.

I can't speak for the mSRx but I do love my little mCPx.

If you plan on getting any more heli's it would defiantly be worth investing in a DX6i sooner rather than later. I bought the RTF version that came with the DX4e which I never really used as I quickly upgraded to the DX6i, the two units are a worlds apart in terms of functionality.

Thanks, I seem to only have one at a time and I'm not sure that I have the patience/time for programming/setting up the controller.

Did you find that you could fly the mCPx with the RTF controller at all?

The mCP X will fly nicely on the DX4e but as mentioned before, there is a lot more that can be tweeked. In all honesty, to set up an mCP X on a DX6i with simple setup, you would need about 20/30 mins tops - theres plenty of threads on here and plenty of support. I'm always looking on here at the various suggestions and things people have tried.

I'd say go with the mcpx, I would advise outdoor flying though as the can move fast & crashing on grass usually does no damage!

It flys just fine with the standard DX4e.

I fly mine indoors just hovering, but to get the most out of it you have to take it outside. The heli holds up well when being bounced off the walls.

Make sure you get a pack of head links as well. If you do bounce the heli off a wall and one of the head links fly off you will never find it.

                      Thanks

I've also just seen the (new) Blade 130X -is this something to consider also?

As has been said above, the stock TX works but a DX6i works much better.

The 130X looks good, it's bigger than a MCPX so is not likely to be quite as crash resistant. Having said that it's still a bit of an unknown quantity but given Blades recent offerings it's likely to be very good.

And here's the beauty of having a DX6i - you can bind up to 10 different models, all with their own programming, to the 1 radio, so no reason why you couldn't have MCPX and 130X!

All of my models fly from my DX6i, all chosen via the menu.

+1 on mcpx and the dx6i combo.... if you making the decision not to get the dx6i because it cost more, then that’s a mistake because in theory you won’t need to buy another radio again and will save money in the long haul. Also if you anything like me you will spend a load of cash on upgrades and spare parts for the mcpx that could have waited until later…. Just hold off on that and get the 6dxi.

The way an mSR flys is quite different to a mSRx.
The flybar gives some self stabilisation (and sometimes 'toilet bowel effect') on the mSR which is not present on the mSRx. There's pretty much, no hands off on mSRx....

I use the stock mSR transmitter (MLP4DSM) for both helis (mSRx bought BNF).
If you can afford the £70 for a BNF version, i'd say do it.

The way an mSRx responds IMHO is very similar to an mCPx for basic flying.
But, being FP, it won't fly inverted and loop etc. However, it gives the ability to gain basic control - similar to how mCPx behaves - while practising indoors. Circuits, figure of eights, nose in etc...

Then buy mCPx with DX6i or some other computer TX later.
You'll probably recoup a lot of the £70, in savings on spare parts for repairs of an mCPx, in the long run

Just my opinion from my experience.
Enthusiasm is no substitute for skill :-)

Go with the DX6i combo you won't be sorry I started with a 6i and found it easy to set up any Heli and will it do you a long time, the only reason I changed to an DX8 was because I have a lot of models planes, cars, and helis and run out of memory.
When you get it put another post up and will give you the settings for the mcpx and tell you how to tame it down a little.
                              Cheers Dave M.
