  • Are there any upgrade skids for the mCPX that are worth buying

    Hello all

I would like to know if anyone has tried any good upgraded skids on their mCPX for example Xtreme, Microheli or Rakonheli, i am not to concerned about a lug breaking off as long as it is part of an aluminium support and i can modify it if it happened.

If you are happy or having success with any upgraded skids please let me know also i my mCPX is fitted with the Microheli frame.

I have tried to microheli ones, and im lead to believe most of them are the same.

They look really cool and sit the heli stable, but they are more flimsy than the stock ones. One semi hard crash and the carbon cracks / snaps off and you need for fork out another 8 quid. I went through two sets in a week (Admittedly using 9 batteries a day) and have gone back to stock gear now.

I do plan however to make my own out of sheet steel.

Hi....had this problem with brand spankin new MCPx....2nd flight......broke skid near rear peg (indicated by arrow). Not the front peg as there is more reinforcing there where the battery carrier is.

Question was whether to buy a new skid and risk the weak plastic snapping again, upgrade or repair??
Went for a repair to see how it turned out......nothing to lose......
Got a thin piece of wire and bent it to shape. Used some araldite and some delicate finger work.....ooooer missus!!
Let it dry and a little matt black model paint on it and voila!! Strong as a bloody ox!! I'd put money on this lasting a lot longer than a new standard skid. Will probably snap the skids elsewhere now...lol.....

Sorry Dave....just noticed you already got an upgraded frame.......this post may be useful to someone with stock kit.

      Cheers, K@rlos...

I use the microheli ones. Not the flimsy ones that come as standard on the kit but the more solid looking ones. They have been very good. Survived many crashes and still good. I'm very happy with them.

Standard ones all the way. The carbon ones look nice but just break the plastic tabs where they plug in.

hese are way better than plastic. The hangers are alloy and not plastic. Had many crashes and no issues. Would have gone through a dozen of the plastic ones by now.

Do these skids fit to the stock MCPX frame or is it only of you have the upgrade frame?

I'm sure you've seen pics of the ones I've using - the Rakon TDR style...

I have been very impressed and quite surprised with their strength actually, the carbon is pretty flexible and seems to be able to take a good hit. If you catch it wrong of course I'm sure it'll break, but replacement legs are available on their own. I'm yet to break one though (I did order a spare set of legs in case, but haven't needed them!). I did occasionally break the stock gear, probably went through 3 or 4 sets in total.

Just to be aware, the link spunky posted is only for replacement legs for microheli gear, it doesn't include the whole set. Don't order that thinking you get everything you need!

I've taken a punt and have ordered a set of these:-
                              http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190655173123

The guy has done a youtube video:-
                              Break THIS!!.MOV - YouTube

I've no idea whether these will be any good or not but for just over £11 inc shipping I figured it was worth a try. Saw somebody mention them on the heliguy forums.

I'll let you know what they're like when (if) they arrive....
