  • Faulty mCPx V2 replaced, new one has tail vibration :(

I'm really not doing well with the mCPx v2. My first had a fault where it would suddenly drop the tail which caused a broken canopy (was flying inverted when I experienced the problem), the shop replaced it and now I've got a high frequency vibration in the tail. I was worried that the version I've been given might have been a v1 is that seemed to have this problem more but as far as I can tell this is a v2 with the updated motor and also the swash plate with grommets.

I've checked blade tightness and also tried the other set of blades in case that was the issue. The tail boom is fine and the main gear is in place. What else should I try? I don't really want to be taking it back as the guy in the shop might think I'm taking the.... but also want this sorted.

The only thing I noticed was that on the tail motor this is a small amount of play on the shaft so it will move in and out of the motor, is this normal or is that the problem? Probably talking about 1mm of movement or just less.

I'm a little stressed to say the least, just want to have some good indoor fun

    Hi Mark,

Where in Plymouth are you, What shop did you buy from? Totem?

Is it just the tail that is vibrating? I would think that maybe the 1mm play is your problem, you could plug this with a small piece of paper wrapped around the boom to rule out this issue?

Yeah, got it from Totem, never had a problem before with anything and they've been great getting the first switched, if I'm going back again I want to ensure I've tried everything. Are you in Plymouth as well?

I will see if I can find a way to stop the movement.

that play in the tail should def not be there mate, sounds like that could be your problem.( replied in my other thread before i read this) sod it,take it back! you bought it brand new with this issue, you are quite within your rights to ask for an exchange and shouldnt have to fix it brand new out of the box. (again!) sounds like you have about as much luck with helis as i do!

I thought it might be, so if you push/pull on the tail roto it doesn't move in or out at all?

As for luck with helis I've done OK, even my oldest Raptor 30 still works fine and I've had that about 12 years I guess. Sometimes I think they just don't make things like they used to, but then I remember how amazing the technology is in some of these great helis, I mean, flybarless in something so small is rocking.... well will be when everything works together.

I'm tempted to get them to switch the tail booms complete so they just send back one faulty heli (assuming it didn't go already), if this is done what needs to be done to plug the tail motor back in and secure it, looks like some sort of glue?

there is zero play on my tail shaft mate.. and yeah just a blob of hot glue will secure it. or tin the pins, that seems to hold it in well too.if you dont have a glue gun, gimme a shout,i have a little mini one that wont cost much to send you if you need to borrow it.(got it in hobbycraft,£7.99,with glue sticks....if u have one near you).

yes the tail does move out wards i little all brushed motors move a bit its how they keep the brushes pushed onto the connections so don't worry about the tail (i presume your saying that it will pull out a bit or are you saying that it moves sideways ? sideway would be a problem in and out is normal for brushed motors), if it was mine I'd send it off to horizon hobby with a short letter explaining the problem I'm sure they will fix it for you, good luck with it

I had a similar problem with mine in normal mode, but it disappeared when i swithched to idle up. I adjusted the throttle curve up slightly in normal mode and the vibration went.

The saga continues. As the first heli had a solid tail in flight apart from the servo/board issue causing the tail to drop I knew that it shouldn't have problems so went back today and got a replacement. That one had a crazy wobble in forward flight and then coming to the hover had a wobble in both axis so went back to look for another, flew 3 in the shop and I think now I have one that is OK, just not been able to fly fully as didn't get time to pop to the hall for a flight. Will give it a bash tomorrow and hopefully all will be fine this time. I'm wondering if there was a bad batch or something. We did fly one of the problem helis on a DX4e set in the shop as well as my DX7 just to make sure that it wasn't a transmitter issue. With the DX4e the problem was still there.

I will give an update when I've had a chance to play again.

I will say that Kevin at Totem Hobbies in Plymouth has been very patient with me trying to get this sorted.

hiya mate. all good thanks! it was 3rd time lucky for me and ive had no issues with this one (touch wood).
well, apart from breaking my skids yesterday, bodged it back on with the trusty 'ol hot glue and its flyable again!. should have some new skids arriving tomorrow with any luck, and some new kdbb blades as ive taken quite a large chunk out of the ones on it now at the same time as breaking the skids.....blades are still flyable though so cant complain too much. since damaging the blades they are running out of track, but im unsure if this is because of the damaged blades or ive bent the feathering shaft.i hope its the former.easy enough to check i suppose.but it will be a bugger if it is the shaft as i dont have a spare and im potless now!

glad to see you are enjoying yours mate, they really are great little helis when they fly like they are supposed to!
