  • McpX scale project

For a few months I have been thinking about using the mcpx for a scale project and lately have been doing a lot of research which kit to use, military or civilian. Well, yesterday I made the decision and ordered the body

Its a Revell 1:48 scale Huey Hog and I realise there is a s**tload of work to do, weight reduction, fitting mechanics, balancing etc, but I hope I can do a proper job of it

Least it'll keep me out the pub!!!

            McpX build is now underway!!

Before I start, I'd just like to say that this project has been inspired by Badfrog on the HF site, thanks to him I'm now doing my own.

Ok, kit arrived yesterday and I spent an hour preparing the mcpx, taking boom and tail rotor off, removing blades etc ready for 1st fit

2 fuselage halves put together to gauge the amount of room the 'mechanics' need and where needs trimming and by how much.
Clearance has been made, quite a large part of the roof had to be removed.

After a bit of trial and error, fitting, marking, trimming, re-fitting, mechanics fitted in the fuselage

I removed tail boom and cut c.25mm piece of rod off to place into tail rotor case. Placed 2 halves together, removed the lug on the end of the tail and drilled a hole to attach the tail rotor and another hole at the rear of the tail to feed the motor wire through.

The mechanics can be fitted and removed with the 2 halves of the fuselage together, my plan is that the canopy roof and front can be removed to perform any repairs, replacement of parts etc. Hopefully I'll get time today to do a bit more and am really interested to see how the heavy hog flies!

At any time during this build thread please feel free to comment, any advice or suggestions will be gratefully received

For those who are interested, update on the scale build.....

heli is 90% finished, painted and decals fitted.

I've seen a couple of these builds and the nose and windscreen are removable to allow battery changing. I decided to glue in place and have the roof detachable which allows me to fit batteries and also undo 2 screws under the body and the whole mechanics can be removed easily.

anyway, heres the pics.... any comments would be much appreciated

My hat goes off for you sir! Great job, honestly. I can see my self enjoying something similar but would I be worried about flying it. Keep the updates coming. I'm particularly interested in how it flies. Thanks for sharing.

                    Thanks for the compliment!

Not flown yet but will update once she's in the air

Choice of body is quite apt as she's definitely a heavy hog!!!
