  • MicroHeli carbon Main Frame - A tip and a warning

    After being grounded for a week and only finding replacement standard frames on eBay for £20, I ordered the MicroHeli carbon frame from Midland. The canopy mounts are replaceable with 1mm carbon rod, so as long as I don't break anything else I won't mind the expense.

    If anyone else goes this route there are two things you need to be aware of.

    1. Fix the 3-in-1 unit last. The canopy mount fixing screws cannot be tightened with the 3-in-1 in place.

    2. The carbon mounting plate for the main motor is thinner than the standard plastic one (0.75mm instead of 1mm). This means the motor screws go further into the motor casing and on mine they jam the armature. So beware. The motor screws measure 1.4mm diameter so I need to find some small washers to pack them out. At the moment the smallest I can find locally are stainless M1.6 (Nuts and Bolts - Washers :: Metric :: Stainless :: M1.6)

      For now, I've only gone for the MicroHeli frame and swash. I hope to fly it tonight now that I've got the motor turning freely. In the end I managed to get the 1.4mm screws through some 1.2mm washers that came with the frame. They're 0.5mm thick according to the assembly instructions.

      Here are a couple of photos.

        I'm just waiting on my frame set. I "went for the skies" everywhere else and have full metal swash/head/grips, carbon under carriage, the ali boom and carbon boom supports and MH carbon blades.................and the result;

        1. it flies the same as any other one that has the tail mod done
        2. it will have trebled in value by the time the frame arrives (read "cost", but "value" makes me feel better!)
        3. it's really, really shinny and has lots of black weave stuff, so that makes points 1 & 2 just about acceptable
