  • Mcpx settings help please ... pulling my hair out!!

Right i have an mcpx not sure if its v1 or 2.. its got almost every mod possible inc brushless conversion on main motor and a 120SR tail and tail motor.. now my question or confusion is..
My tx is a gen 1 dx9 spektrum i can't find download settings for the mcpx for dx9.. can i use the settings for mcpx bl or are the different? Could i use dx8 setting then setup voice alerts myself .. any help guys please.. i tried the mcpx bl settings but the heli is really eratic when trying to hover.. seems to start lifting fine then madly rolls to the right just wondering if its not quite setup correctly zero pitch wise..

youre going to hate me for this but from experience any mcpx mod with the exception of an ally swash is pretty much worthless and just adds weight and/or slop. they really do fly much better stock! been there..done that!

that being said it should still fly so I'd check all the throws/servo direction and make sure you've not reversed aileron channel. all should be normal on spectrum (from memory) use about 60-70% on pitch travel and about 30% expo on cyclic across all flight modes. Throttle curves in normal mode 0,35,62,80,100 to get a bit higher headspeed then 96,92,88,92,96 IU1 and similar for IU2 or flat 100. Pitch curves 0,25,50,100 in all flight modes and 50,50,50,50 in hold (limits damage) and it should be good to go, no other settings are needed as such.

I agree fully with Rich on upgrades for the MCP-x as they do fly and 'bounce' much better with just an ally swash and the rest left as stock. We have a very active 'MCP-x crash team' at our club where we attempt to fly at least ten in a fairly small area, so collisions are frequent and many. We use solid carbon rods to make new main shafts and tail booms (with the tail motor wires wrapped spirally along the new boom and protected with heatshrink against blade strikes) as the original hollow ones can split but apart from that they are stock. Rich's TX settings should be good for both the standard MCP-x and the BL versions.

Barry is right, a solid main shaft is a must, make these yourself from a good straight bit of 3mm carbon rod. also the 10mm longer solid 2mm boom is a good shout, the extra length helps stop the tail blowing out on funnels or backwards flight however with the 120 tail motor you may be struggling with tail heaviness as from what I remember that's a chunky motor!

im still curious about the rolling right though, tell me, if you power on the heli and without spooling up test the gyro compensation does everything move in the right direction? ie roll the heli left the swash move right...etc?

do any of the servos appear to jitter, particularly on the aileron? that's a common issue on MCPx's. the small silver resistance strip on the servo board gets dirty and the servo jitters when moving or finding 'home' position. fortunately its an easy fix.

try what ive suggested and i'll see if I can help you further.
