700x tail gears

I have been trying to find articles about problems with the 700x tail gears. From what I have read the tail gears strip because they are not meshed/shimmed correctly. Thinking back I remember some white speckles on top of my batteries a couple of flights ago and also that there was a little play in my tail gears I.e you could rock the tail back and forth without the head moving.

im going to see if I can source some shims and adjust the gear meshing so that there isn't so much play in the tail.

Hmm i do have a spare bag with a few bits in what i couldnt see in the manual. I dont think there was any shims in there though. Ill have a look

I'm starting to think that I've made a massive error buying a 700X. It's unbelievable that I am unable to locate these gears anywhere in the UK. Considering that there is an obvious fault with the gears they should be made available, or is it just me that is unable to locate them?

When I crashed mine a few weeks back, I got almost all the parts together in one batch apart from the 24-tooth tail gears. At the time Midland had stock so I sourced that part from them - in fact, they've got most parts. They're now showing no stock on BLH5740. Depends which part you need though - BLH5740 or BLH5741 ?

Shove which part number you need into rcferret.co.uk ... Revolution have 5471 and Kings Lynn may have 5470 (doesn't show stock levels)

Failing that, give Horizon/UK a call directly and they should sort you out! About Us

tomwalden , thanks for your help. It looks like I'll need to contact Horizon. It'll be interesting to hear what they have to say. Bloody poor effort so far though.

I attempted to contact Horizon UK today, I waited 10 minutes for an answer and then gave up. I then sent them an e-mail complaining about not getting an answer when I rang and the lack of part number BLH5740.
Perhaps I should have bought the Align 700 DFC?
Before I really go into one I'll wait for Horizons response.

I understand your frustration. I've phoned HH a couple of times recently. You can tell if you're not getting through as it repeatedly takes you back to the voice-menu-selection "press 2 for service" If you get that, hang up. Wait 5 mins and try again. Each time, it only took me a couple of attempts to get through.

PS, FWIW, I agree parts supply isn't as great as it could be. However, after my crash, I got all the parts I needed (quite a fair few!) within a couple of days. Overall therefore, I think parts supply really isn't that bad. Unfortunately, you've hit the one part that seems quite scarce giving you a bad impression!

Well I received an answer from Horizon today. They said that the BLH5740 wont be available for 6 weeks. Pi** poor if you ask me, Align here I come.

Yeah not great You can probably get the parts from the US in a much shorter timescale than that, but you shouldn't have to!

I finally managed to get hold of some tail gears (24t bevel gear) from america. I got my friend in the local model shop to contact horizon and they said there wont be any tail gears coming into the uk till september..... What good is that? And im suspecting the reason there arent any tail gears in the uk is because they are crap and everybody with a 700x may have had to buy spares.

on a good note i did manage to shim mine and it seems to be fine now. No more white powder on top of the batteries. Woohoo
