    700x build

So.... Just been out to test fly it. Bit nervous to start off with as i always imagine it to lift off, flip over and destroy its self. Well it didnt. Nice smooth spool up, popped it up into the air and a huge sigh of relieif.

    Good points:

Nice smooth hover, solid as a rock

    Gear mesh fine

    Blade tracking perfect

    Happy happy happy

    Bad points:

Tail wag. I started off with low gain and the tail seemed to be sluggish and loose, so i adjusted the gain slowly until it started to wag. No matter where i adjust the tail gain i just cant seem to get rid of the wag .

Motor very warm. I brought it down after a 2-3 min test flight at 60-70% throttle and the motor was quite hot. I could hold my fingers on top of the motor but only just. The esc and wiring was all cool. Could this be my esc settings?

I read somewhere that you need to change the tail servo arm to a longer one as with the standard arm you cannot get rid of the tail wag. Could this be my tail problem? Thanks

      Hey - congratulations!

      Big isn't it?

Yeah, the tail config on the 700x is designed for relatively low tail RPM with large tail blades (115m) and therefore a fairly large amount of mechanical gain. Personally, I found that the whole thing just worked better for me if I reduced that mechanical gain by running a much shorter tail horn than the one that comes in the super-combo.

With a shorter horn, you can run higher gains in the FBL unit. That said, I know others are running a stock setup and got it working fine ...

I am doing some research into what servo horns will fit my servos. Going to try what you said, which is also what nige explained to me. Run a shorter servo horn. Does that help the setup a lot?

Yep. Makes a huge difference. When I get back to my place (out flying at mo) I'll post the tail setup including horn that I've used.

Yep. I'm using the horn from a 550x. This has holes so you can select different lengths.

Managed to tune the tail a lot better today, i went back into the beastx and changed the tail limits. Shortened the travel by about 1mm either side and now its a lot lot better. In fact after a couple of tuning flights i would say it needs a little more gain. The wind seemed to blow the tail a little. Causing a slight wag but when i gave it hard rudder it didnt bounce back (wag)

Good idea. In essence you've done the same thing and reduced the mechanical gain, increasing resolution to the BX.

Visited nige yesterday at thearne club. He set my gov up and supplied me with a shorter tail servo arm. Had a few test flights and got the tail somewhere near. Also loaded the horizon settings into the esc. Havnt had chance to have a proper fly as of yet as its raining. Cant wait to get it out. Thanks again nige

First proper 3d (my level of 3d) flight on it today. I love it its a brilliant heli

The camera man was not so good as hes never seen a heli fly before so i think he was trying to watch at the same time lol

Shouldnt crash it, not really trying anything out of my league. Im happy with it because it flies like i expected it to. And it hasnt been that hard to set up (even though i had help)

Im thinking if selling my trex 600n as i dont think ill use it any more
