I'm going to perform a complete re-set up of the heli and go from there. Just for future reference, can I take it that it's a better idea to change to and from I/U while the heli is still on the ground?
Personally, I wouldn't. Being in IU with the blades that close to the ground isn't a good idea in my view. A gust of wind, or any tip over will be disastrous. If your heli is set right, changing modes in flight will be a complete non-event.

Hi guys I too am a novice and have a similar problem went out in the garden today to try and hover and when spinning the blades up the tail jilted round to the left then after a few seconds there is a kinda under load/stressed sort of sound and the helli starts trying to go round to the left whilst still on the ground and I counter this by putting input in on the stick and let go once centralised
