I won't be spending £20+ on blades until I start doing 3D I guess.

Just a note and observation, i hear many times, just because a heli is being hovered or gently flown in circuits does not mean there is no load on it, ( far from it, a heavy bump while landing can load a head/drive system just as much as 3D )
The best blades around will allow and help a heli to fly far better even if it is just hovering or slow forward flight, the best blades do not just give their advantage when they are flown to the limit ! far from it.
I can understand the statement i cannot afford £50 blades as i may crash frequently while trying the new moves, and i will happily make do with £10 or £15 ones.Current Heli's, Align Trex 550, Blade MCPx BL, Blade 130x, Blade 450x, JR DSX9

Point taken Mike and thanks.
I think my statement that I sharn't be spend much on blades is more to do with the fact that I will probably be needing to replace them quite often rather than them not being of benefit. If I accept that I will crash often at first then to spend a lot on blades that might only last a flight or two seems silly. Once I can make them last several flying sessions without crashing then yes, I agree, better blades might then be in order!Paul

450x blades
If they are not copy's there a great blade, problem is you won't no till they turn up. And the copy's are crap, poor quality and out of balance.2nd place sports class, Helifest 2015

I just re-built my 450X and fitted some Align 3G seconds.Tested them out on Sunday with 3 flights. Does everything it did before. Piro Flip, tic tocs, rainbows, Pie dishes etc, etc. I did notice that there seemed a little bit of wander. But that could have been down to not giving it a 100% check over before testing. Good enough for me.Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

I have just received my Align 3G blades. There is a bit of plastic stuck on to one of the blades near the tip. I assume that is to balance them?
I have weighed them and they are both 26g as they are.
I have hung them from a small screwdriver and they don't hang exactly parallel. Is that important? They aren't that far out... the difference is less than half the width of the blade.Paul

450x blades
If it is a bit of clear plastic then it is to stop them rubbing against each other in transit. Remove it as i forgot once and it doesnt half scare you when it comes flying off in a hover infront of you. Mine are all pretty good straight out the packet.Originally posted by PaulChurchley View PostI have just received my Align 3G blades. both blades should indeed hang parallel together, its worth checking the CG chordwise and length waysCurrent Heli's, Align Trex 550, Blade MCPx BL, Blade 130x, Blade 450x, JR DSX9

Yes it is clear. I shall remove it then and see how they hang.
Do you know any good videos on how to properly balance blades? I shall do a search on youtube but if you could recommend one then that would be a great help.
Thanks guys.Paul

Thanks guys.
the way i do it
1) put a straight knife blade in a vice
2) check the weight of both blades, mark the lightest
3) place a rotor upside down on knife blade at 45 degrees , mark this with a sharp pencil
4) turn the blade 90 degrees and mark the blade again
5) there should be a cross now on the blade at its centre of weight
6) do the same for the other and compare
7) if they are the same, bolt them to a standard balancer
if they balance equal then lucky you
8) if not, take hold of the lightest blade, add tape weight to oppose the offset.
9) recheck until C of G and weight and longitudinal balance are equal, when you get there thats it
bolt on and go fly, adjust tracking and check for vibration, remember that vibrations can come from not only weight imbalance but also torsional indifference as well, most modern blades should be fair, occasionally a set of blades may need some dynamic balance too, now this is a touchy subject, and how i get over dynamic imbalance may not be to everyones cup of tea, but i add a bit of electrical tape and cardboard to the boom and side frame with a card hanging loose, fly it so that the skids are very light on the floor, then watch and listen, you may observe vibration, if so add a bit of tape to one blade only, any blade, is it better, no, then take it off and add it to the other, is that better, yes, then move it outwards or inwards untill it becomes less still, then try adding more or less, until you can achieve the best possible,
with small heli's i have held them in my hand and felt the vibes, and then kept moving or adding/removing until no vibes are felt, NOW a word of caution, i dont recommend any one running a heli up in there hands, i do it because i have calculated the risk or am holding the heli in such a way that it cannot hurt me no matter what may go wrong
Hope that helpsCurrent Heli's, Align Trex 550, Blade MCPx BL, Blade 130x, Blade 450x, JR DSX9

Thanks yet again Mike.
You know... one of the things I love about this hobby is that there is so much to learn and so much to do if I want to do a good job.
Love it
