  • 450X Discontinued!

    Hi Guys
just getting back into 'Trying' to learn CP Heli's only to discover the awesome 450x is discontinued
I thought i would first start with a Nano ---now discontinued.
Then i thought i may go back to my old Mcpx v2, only to find out that is also discontinued!!!
    What on earths going on???
I now have to settle for the next best thing as a trainer the V977, they say its great, but it has a crummy TX thats not programmable
I then thought i'd settle with the 450x...Any clues Guys????
Maybe i've been away too long

Didn't you post this in a different thread!?

The Blade 450X has simply gone through some iterations. The 450X v2, and now ...
      (collective pitch)
there is the ... 360 CFX (which is actually marginally bigger than the 450X).
Then there is the Blade 300CFX - collective pitch, no bailout.
There is also the Blade 270CFX which has "panic mode" bail out.
The Blade 230S which also has panic mode
The Blade nano CPS has panic mode (replacement for the nano CPX)
The Blade mCPX/BL is the replacement for the Blade mCPX v2.
      (Fixed Pitch)
The Blade 200SRX replaces the Blade 120SR

All the models in BOLD are current.

      HTH.

PS. If I were you, I'd go with the Blade 230S as a first collective pitch heli - or the Blade nano CPS (like the CPX, but with panic mode).

No problem. But anyway, like I say, if you were looking for a 450X, mCPX v2 or a nano-CPX, just substitute each for 360cfx, mCPX/BL and nano-CPS and you have the up to date models.

PS. There is also the Blade 180CFX, but it, and frankly the 270cfx are pretty advanced models and not really suitable for beginners IMO. The 230S is your best bet I suspect

          EDIT 2 : comparison vid of 450x v 360cfx.

As already explained, the older models have simply been replaced with newer and improved versions. Blade helis do tend to go through regular product update cycles. I think this is because Blade specialise in smaller and micro helis and the technology in smaller helis (specifically their electronics) is rapidly advancing. The new models are better so there is no reason not to buy a small Blade heli, unless you are somehow emotionally attached to the old names

The only truly discontinued Blade helis are the larger ones, 500 size and bigger. Horizon dropped all the larger helis from the Blade range, no money to be made apparently.

              Thanks Guys
I will take a look at the 230S

Oh, just one question if i may....
I hear the mcpx BL is a bit of a handful to say the least but awesome all the same, would it be possible to 'Dull it down' with a Dx6i for instance for indoor use? I have always had my eye on it. As said before i have heard great things about the V977 but worry it wont teach me enough real CP flying and has a duff TX that can't be programmed.

Generally micro CP heis are very frenetic and skittish to fly. You can do so much by using a mild pitch curve, low rates and exponential on the cyclics but that wont change the basic skittish nature of the heli.

To get a heli that's 'planted' and not prone to zipping off in random directions at light-speed every time a gnat farts then you need some mass and inertia, that only comes with size.
