    Just a thought, what would you do on a flybarless - Cut down the throws and add expo? to get the same result?

      Hi Paul. I am afraid that is a 'don't go there' item. The reason is that the fly-bar set up, known as the Bell-Hiller (more on the web) mechanism helps stabilise the machine in flight; more particularly it helps minimise de-stabilisation in flight, particularly in wind-gusts. This is mainly due to the gyroscopic effect given by the flybar paddles. So removing those and going to flybar-less on its own is considered impractical because you need something to compensate for the loss of stabilisation in the pitch and roll given by the flybar. That's where the three-axis gyro comes in; one axis takes over from the existing tail gyro (rotation about a vertical axis) the other two deal with pitch and roll.

      Regards

        @RotaryOne

        Thanks for the info. I wish I had realised what you said in the last post a lot earlier. Having caught the bug with a nine eagles solo pro (which clearly uses the mass of the flybar as a gyro stabiliser) I decided I wanted something a bit bigger to practice flying outside.

        I got the Walkera V120D01 because I thought the FBL and 3 axis gyro would be a neat solution. Trouble is its a real pain to get the gyro settings right for outdoor use - stop it from overcompensating for a gust of wind for example.

        The Walkera is OK but I wonder if a conventional Bell Hillier setup would have given it a bit more gyroscopic stability, making it easier on the gyro stabilisation. If I had my money round again I think I'd get a Blade 120SR which would also work on my DX6i rather than the Walkera Tx.

        Thanks

        Raj
        It takes a crank to start a revolution!

          Boggy I ve fitted a Trex 450 fly bar and paddles, but I'm not sure if I understand the weight as described above.
          does the this new Trex flybar and paddle (no collets or threaded mounts) set up weigh one more gram than the 400 version with collets and mounts?
          Or do I have to have to still attach the 400 mounts (would look ungainly as not needed) and then on top the collets also?

          Sorry to be such a dumb arse, but I dont have scales accurate enough to answer this question.

            the Trex paddles weigh 8 grams on their own. the stock paddles and a single wheel collet (inc the paddle carrier) weighs 7 grams.
