  • Blade 400 help!?!

    Hi peeps.

Can anyone help me track my blades?
I've had her for 3 weeks from new, and flys well.
Yestday it started to shake, and when it was flying you could see the duble blades.
It's never had a hard landing, or crashed.

I just fly, I'm not mechanically minded lol.
I live in Basildon Essex, and I'll pay to have them put right.

    Cheers
    Darren

    To track your blades:
Get some blade tracking tape or any coloured electrical tape would do and put a small piece on one blade.
Fly the heli and try to see which blade is high.
Adjust only one blade by popping off the blade grip link and giving it one turn, refit the link and fly again
If the gap is worse then undo the same blade and go back two turns, if it is a smaller gap then adjust the same blade again by a turn. Continue to do this until the blades are aligned (tracked)
Make sure you only do the adjustments on the one blade, always the same blade
    Hope this helps :-)

Both blades have red and black tape on it all ready. Shall I remove one of them?

          Cheers

Yes adjust the long link from the swash to the blade grips.

+1 I always mark the tip of one blade with a marker and wipe off when I am done.

why has it gone out of track ? you may be better putting a set of blades on it. i have had blades bow before and send out tracking really everything needs to square and the rods from the swash either side should be the same lengths. saying that the heli if the head is plastic is somewhat normal slop in it and this hampers setting up.
              anyway good luck

This is a good question. If the blades have just all of a sudden gone out of track then its unlikely to be a problem with the linkages.

The blade is known to wear dampers pretty quickly. I would start by replacing them as they are cheap enough. Also have a good check on all the linkages on the head. Its possible that something has started to come loose. If the problem still persists after this then try another set of blades as mentioned above.

Although the blade head is plastic it never prevented me from getting the blades to track when I had a B400.

+1 on checking for loose stuff, my blades went out on my 450, turned out to be the ball link loose on the blade grips.

Yeah just went out of trake and started to shake. The blades are the Standred wooden blades.
So it well might be the blades??

Cheers guys, I'll put a new set of blades on and see before adjusting.

As above. Something is probably coming loose. Check the feathering shaft screws. Anything that screws into metal must have loctite on it.

Done up all the head, feathering shaft, and all screws. Fitted new blades... had a hover and the blades are still out of trake.
Shall i buy a pitch gage?

                        Cheers

Pitch gauge is certainly a useful tool to have and its worth checking you have got 0 degrees on both blades at mid stick. But as I said above also change out your dampers.

Also get yourself a blade balance, getting the blades balanced should help.

I'd buy a vernier gauge. When I've had problems it's been because the links on the head have been the wrong length. They can slip if there's a bump. They need to be the same length on each side of the head. The manual usually gives you the lengths. They are critical. Setting them to the right length is a good starting point. If the lengths are the same and you can check by counting the thread turns you can see on each link or by taking them off and comparing, then there is something else wearing out that you haven't found yet. Helis work ok when all the bits work. It's very simple in theory, but very easy to miss something in practice. There may be more play in a linkage that gives a bit more on one side of the heli.
