  • New 2200 Lipo, Crashed...

Hi all, I finally managed to swap the connectors on my ESC so i can use my 2No. new 2200 heliguy batteries and my old E-Flite original.

However, moments after taking off and leaving the ground with the new pack i hadn't realised just how much this would effect the CG and subsiquently went nose into the grass....

I'm unsure if i was just not quick enough, or indeed if it was just too heavy and i didnt have the amount of cyclic to pull out and correct the nose dropping.

Anyway, 4 hours later and she's back together. Just have to repair 1 of the servo's and set the head up again.

I'm a little conerned the same will happen again though due to the difference in weight.

My question is, how do you guys swap between different weights in packs (if at all) and are you simply adjusting the trim to compensate for the difference once airborn?

    Cheers,
    Anthony

if theres no room to move the battery around then i would rest/hold the flybar on your fingers so that the front dips then add a bit of weight to the back of the heli somewhere until the heli levels out.

its always best to check your center of gravity first before taking the heli in the air

If im not too sure i normally just lift off quickly and get some height, that way you have time to see which way if any it wants to drift. But it shouldn't be anything thats not easily controlled by cyclic comands unless something is wrong

Now that you've rebuilt the heli, strap the new battery back in and lift the heli on your fingers by the flybar as Ian says and see if it noses down and if so, add weight to balance it.
If it dosen't then you may have a problem elsewhere with the set-up, perhaps a dodgey servo so check that the swash moves correctly after you repair the servo.
Once you have the heli set up and balanced for the new batteries just add some weight (self adhesive wheel balancing weights) to the other lighter packs until they weigh the same as the new ones and you should be good to go with either pack.

Cheers for the tips guys, I will try the above.

As simple as it sounds I hadn't given it a thought to add weight to the lighter battery!!

          Top tip, thanks.

Just thought I'd update my thread...

Took all advice and went out into the back garden to hover and set up the head after the rebuild. Couple of seconds hovering and the heli twitched and decided it was going to pitch sideways straight into our garden wall.

Still not sure what happened but have a feeling it was a dodgy servo after the last crash.

The brickwall shattered my carbon blades and ruined the cyclic servos together with the obvious main shaft, blade grips, feathering shaft etc.

So, needless to say after a few mail order parts she's back together, set-up and flying great on all of the lipo's.

So much so that after some lazy 8's and stall turns I decided to try my first ever inverted loop as it's such a nice day!!

What can I say other than wow, my hands are still shaking as I type this and I managed to loop 3 times with my one lipo!! Awesome!!

The new lipo's certainly make the b400 more lively, and it seems to have more grunt.

Hope your all enjoying the Easter holidays, I know I am!

Mine needed a bit of tail weight to balance the 2200mAh. I ended up putting two fins on instead of one and that balanced it nicely.

              P.S.
I strap the lipo on with the leads towards the motor to shift their weight further back. I just leave a couple of mm space between the end of the lipo and the motor.
