I just ordered a one way bearing to fit to a new main gear. After a bit of trouble fitting it I got the heli ready to fly. Half way through my first pack after the fix my heli started making an odd noise so I landed and started to check things over. I noticed that my one way bearing was no longer holding (yes I did install it the right way before anyone asks!). On taking the shaft out all of the bearing rods fell out! Hmmm not sure what caused this but Midland Helicopters, from whom I had ordered the replacement bearing, were excellent. I called them up yesterday and without hesitation they have sent me a new bearing, in fact one better, a new bearing already installed in a main gear, and it arrived today. Excellent service.
On fitting the new gear I notice that the old one was a little melted around the top. Looking at the Blade exploded view I notice there is no washer in this area and so the way I had it set up was correct. Thinking about it I am not sure why there is no washer here as this would prevent the plastic of the main gear rubbing against the plastic of the main frame- perhaps this is what caused the melting? Any ideas anyone?
