  • Could do with a bit of spanner help... pleeeease...

    OK,

So I'm working on the blade 400 after the crash. I've worked on the rotor head and there was one thing that I identified. The 'shims' that are referred to... they're the really skinny washers, correct? I could only find 3 when I took the head apart though...

The recommendation is 2 for 'soft' 3D and 4 for 'hard' 3D, so if I'm just hovering will I be OK with one each side... until I can buy some more?

I've rebuilt the head with a new feathering shaft, ready to go back on, so I've made some progress!

    Now... the main questions...

I can't undo the flybar cradle screws, so any tips? They're the ones on the ends of the silver shafts...

I'm using the small 'philips' type screwdriver I got with my CX3, which seems to fit but they won't budge!!! Any tips?

Also, it would help if I could remove the flybar paddles, but I'm not sure what size the screws heads are. I've tried 1.5mm and it's too small, but 2mm is too big, so are these imperial?

    Erm... help?!!!

    F@*k, that sounded bad...

those are grub screws mate which require an alan key. that just loosens the collar from the flybar then you need to unscrew the paddles themselves with the collars connected.on the flybar cage holder they are also grub screws. as far as shims go its usually about three per side. there should have been more than three shims when you took it apart....!!!

    good luck mate

any more probs just pm me and i'll help you out

use a better screwdriver on the fly bar cage screws. if they are really stubborn dip the head assy in boiling water first that usually works.

the paddle wieght grub screws are in fact 1.5mm but may be slightly elongated so take care. unscrew and remove the paddles first! then try the hot water,or even a lighter to heat them up.

OK, I'll try that Boggy, cheers. 1.5mm feels too small and (as I just said to maty65 in a PM) it feels like a 1/16" would fit better, but I don't have one. Honestly, the 1.5mm alen key feels nowhere near as it easliy rotates inside the screw head... unless someones already stripped it for me!

Yeah, but only a day old...

I've just stripped down and changed the gears in a servo though, and cleaned out the old gear teeth... booted it up - swash plate level and servo moving very nicely! I love this almost as much as flying the damn thing!

I know it'll need some trimming though...

OK, so all the grub screws in the flybar cradle apart from one won't come out, so I recon I'll have to improvise because there's no way an allen key is going to work. Good point made by Matty about the flybar coming out without dismatling the cradle, but I can't even get the weights off so I'm pretty screwed either way right now!

Hmmm... maybe I need to get some new grub screws coz I think I'm about to junk these ones getting them out...

What i would do here is if you have a dremel i would take/file the end of the allan key down on the flat of a disc so to give it a new edge.....then i would heat up the grub screw with a soldering iron to melt all the lock tight.....give those a go.

                  Ha ah!

I discovered that the problem was the crap allen key from Halfords that wasn't actually 1.5mm. Once I got another to try it fitted perfectly so the rest of the job was dead easy. Big smiles now... it's all fixed!

Yeah, that's right for 3D, but 2 shims each side is fine for standard.
