  • One small step for man, one giant leap for ME!

Today I took a step further in my heli piloting. I thought that it was about time that I took off my home made training gear and be a man!

Over the past few days I have been hovering about in my back garden, using an old glossed door as a helipad because my grass is rather long. I was a bit shocked at first because as I spooled her up the tail flung to the right and mowed a load of grass! I was not expecting this because obviously the training balls caused enough friction to stop the heli spinning at spool up.

In the air, though, I was loving it. It's such a liberating feeling knowing that I have progressed enough to not feel the need to use training gear any more.

Just for a laugh, here is a picture of me flying my heli with the training gear over the weekend. My face says it all...

    Cheers.

Gotta say though, by the looks of the training gear, im surprised a Blade 400 got off the ground, those things look big!

Cheers guys. I thought that the photo might make some of you smile! When ever there is a camera aimed at me I feel compelled to pull either a stupid face or an over the top smile

They aren't that big or heavy. They measure from the nose to the horizontal fin on the tail boom and are very light as they are made from foam golf balls and pine dowel. I begrudged spending £8 on something that I wouldn't keep for that long so decided to make my own for a mere £3.

Doesnt look like bad training gear really. The main reason why I bought TG was that when I just started flying the B400 my landings were very harsh and sudden, and the flexible rods took the impact of them.
