  • tail setup

i know this is probarbly the most talked about thing, but i have set up the gyro and tail servo by all the information and vids i can find but i am forever having to put in right rudder.i set it up so everything is square but every time you turn it on the slider seems to have moved to a different position. its reall y annoying flying with constant right rudder and with the trim set far to the right as well to compensate. i know the gyro etc needs replacing but there not cheap, and as my misus is three weeks from dropping our fourth baby i think the answer will more and likley be no..............!!!
does anyone else suffer with the tail like this and is there a cure with the stock gyro and servo?

    cheers matt

im not typing it all again so here is a copy of a previous post.you should need just a few clicks of trim at the most! the gyro really isnt that bad!it kicks a bit but apart from that it holds

    start with your tx.
remove any sub trim on the rudder channel. set the normal trims to the center.
in the gyro menu set the switch to "gyro"
set the two values to pos 0 (switch up) 73% pos1 (switch down)64%

    on the heli
unplug the gyro from the rudd channel and plug the servo directly into the rudd channel on the rx. power on the tx then the heli. the servo should center.power down both. if needed remove the arm and reset it as close to straight up as possible. now check the 90 degree pivot arm at the rear it should be in line with the boom and tail shaft.if not adjust the rod.once that is done take off the servo arm and turn it 1 spline anticlockwise(top towards the front of the heli). reconnect the gyro and servo correctly.

looking at you video's andy your controls are set up in the correct directions so shouldn't need adjusting. just make sure the gyro is set to normal and not digital

a tip with the gyro. once you have powered up the heli try and avoid picking it up and turning it,as the gyro will start to try and regain its heading and if the heli is stationary or your swinging it about they soon pop!so set the heli down where you are going to fly from and plug in there.
now i know you will need to test it so just do the minimum and then power down

to check it power on tx and heli it should initialise and settle roughly where you have set it . put the gyro switch down pick the heli up by the head and flick the tail right and the tail hub should move towards the boom. put the heli down and it should center.put the gyro switch up do the same test this time it wont center it will try and move all the way to full travel and hold. power down the heli!!!and tx

check your belt tension is correct as a loose belt causes kicks.dont spool up to fast this also causes it to kick.

try this and test fly it gently if your still having problems ill give you my moby n# and well go from there
there is another way of setting the gyro using travel adjust but i dont think its as good and ive blown one gyro using it

sorry didn,t mean to dwell on a already discussed subject ,just so frustrating when rest of heli is pukka. i will try it this way now and hope it will be ok

Matt - I have a gyro that I replaced the stock one out of my Twister 3d storm that you can have if you have no luck with the above tips. Not sure if the stock gyro is the same between the blade and twister but mine never worked right from the moment I got the heli.

Drop me a pm if you want it and I can pop it in the post to you.

ron /boggy advice is spot on and its the same procedure i use to setup my tail and it works with only a few clicks sometimes of trim

just rememeber the step when you move the servo arm one spline anticlock as that step is often left out in other peoples setup BUT its very important

i would call it "optional" but with this heli it makes a difference!!

I'll try and give this a go as this appears to be my main problem, the tail is constantly drifting left so I'm continually putting in right rudder while trying to fly.
Just one quick question how do I know which plug is the rudder one as my receiver is tucked away in the middle of the frame. Will I need to get it out or is someone able to tell me which one is the rudder, i.e. 2nd from right?

I have the exact same problem on my blade 400 and i have come to the conclusion that the tail servo and gyro is s**t! i had the same confusion as to how do you know which is the rudder channel? is it the one where the lead coming from the gyro is made up of 3 wires togeva GOES IN OR WHERE just the single yellow wire alone GOES IN?

5th i think from the left.1st is empty! i dont have mine in front of me. but all you need to do is trace the multiple wire from the gyro and its that one. unplug the servo from the gyro and fit it in that socket

if you can use a torch they are actually marked

i was just about to ask that question. i have just tried the setup but when i power on the servo has changed its mind and moved the horn towards the tail. you can also notice the creeping when you look at the slider, it seems to want to be in a different place each time you power up. any suggestions here.
i think this requires a physical second opinion, in other words someone there. you can't always explain everything how you want it to read to someone else. anyway i will keep tinkering!!

                    cheers matt

ps. is the tail servo digital or is it the same as the others on the heli? using stock servos that is.........!

Boggy, I went through your set up procedure and I have to say right up to the point where it hit the wall it was probably the most stable I've had it!!!
To put that in perspective I've struggled to control the thing outdoors with plenty of room and this was in my garage and I'd had it airborn for a little while.
Sad part is although I'll more than likely find the feathering shaft bent when I can power it up again the only thing that's noticably broken is the one way bearing, which is the only thing I haven't got a spare of,doh!
Hopefully though it may well be a move in the right direction thanks.
