in the manual for the blade it shows the gyro facing parallel to the boom i.e. the controls for it face one of the sides --- and in reality it faces across the boom i.e. controls facing the tail -+-, does anyone know how this should be and does it make any difference.

Current status:-It flies, but for how long lol -
as long as its firmly attached and moving the tail in the correct orientation then its position is nothing to worry about.
