  • Collective in throttle hold?

Sorry if this is a stupid newbie question but...

When rebuilding my 400, I wanted to check servo movement so I switched on (no blades attached!) with throttle hold on. Moving the right stick moved servos, but the throttle stick did nothing (rudder was OK).

Checking the radio (Boggy's settings) showed 0% for the pitch curve on all throttle positions in hold mode so I guess this explains why the servos didn't move, and answers my question(!) but if this is right, what's the reason. Surely it would be useful to be able to control pitch in throttle hold mode - for autos etc.

I got round the setup problem by disconnecting the 3 motor wires, but for setup, would adjusting the pitch curve for throttle hold mode to 0/25/50/75/100 achieve the same result, allowing the servos to move without the motor spinning?

    Many thanks as always

You have got the best option for checking pitch, you could get a seperate r/x battery and plug it into the sence lead off the gyro (siggle wire) this way you power up the r/x and servos without the main battery powering the esc and such the motor.

TBH if you're fiddling with pitch don't use throttle hold, much safer to disco the motor. Just my opinion but I take no chances around my lady, they can do a fair bit of damage if you have a mishap.

I'm still very much a newbie but everyone has been so helpful (particularly you!). My theory is that the more you learn about how these things work, the better you can repair them - just got to work on the flying now!

B400 is all back together and appears to be OK... spun it up VERY slowly in the living room and all appears to track OK and you'll be pleased to know I've got some training gear! now we just need weather!

Is there anything I should check to make sure its all working OK before taking to the skies (grass?). One thing I spotted somewhere was that the top gear in servos had to be installed in a special way or it would not move properly... how do I know I've done it right?

Also, the training gear bends so when installed, the skids are still on the ground - not sure if this is right - the Phoenix training gear raises the heli off the ground?

              Many thanks as ever!

P.S Are you at the fly-in this weekend at Charmouth?

My TG is the same mate. I think on Phoenix it's a bit exaggerated, do get her checked over first by somebody who knows exactly what they're looking for. I'm sure she's fine but you wouldn't want to take any chances eh?

                  Hi John
I think the TG is probably OK, but I'm a bit worried about the elevator servo. Should the arm be at right angles to the servo because mine isn't?

                  Many Thanks

At the centre position on the sticks all three servos should be at 90 degrees, if they aren't you need to carefully remove them and put them back so that they are. Once you have done this the swash plate should be roughly in the middle of the main shaft vertically and should be dead level.

                    Can you post some pics?

                        Hi John
Thought I'd start a new thread in the B400 forum - pics are there with more explanation...
                        Look forward to your comments!
