  • Just got one!

Just got myself a 300X and all I can say is wow! Mega stable even in a bit of wind, only got one battery though and only had one hover in the garden, but very impressed, waiting for more batts to be delivered next week!!

Knocks spots off the 450 3D.

It can't be better than a 130-X can it?

First impressions I'd say its a close call, bit heavier than the 130 so it's better in the wind and I doubt it will take as much to maintain as the 130 either. Not as imposing as a 450 either so I'll probably try more stuff on it.

Compared to the 130X it's a totally different animal. The BeastX in it makes it as configurable as any large FBL Heli, whereas the only adjustment you can do on the AS3X is the Gyro sensitivity.
The higher mass makes it much more stable than the 130X, so loops and turns look much better on it. It also is by far easier to handle in high winds than the 130X.
Besides it's lower cost, the 130X does have one significant advantage over the 300X though. It's crash survivabilty. My statistics show that after about 60 crashes on the 130X I only had to repair it in 1 out of 4 cases. with the 300X I've had 9 "subsoil-landings" so far and each and everyone of them required significant repair.

I used to utilize the 130X as a live-simulator and only after I mastered a certain new 3D figure would I migrate it to the 300X and then to the 550.
However after I now got the mCPx BL, I will use that one more and more and will probably sell the 130X because of its tail damage sensitivity.

Been thinking of another heli myself . I have a trex 450 and a nano and mcpx BL .
i like the nano and BL due to survival rate, I want something between the BL and trex.
do the 130x survive better than the 300 ?

It does seem the bigger the better, except for cost and survivability. I've been flying my 450 flybarred clone and it's so different from the 130-X in terms of stability and enjoyment. The 130-X is so relaxing in some ways, due to its survivability, and yet as things happen so much more quickly than my 450, it's more difficult to fly. The 300 does look an affordable flybarless option, rather than a 450. Are there any upgrades that have to be done, like the orange grommets on the 130-X.

I don't know about the 300x but I have a130x and a flybarred trex 450. They are remarkably similar to fly except that the 130 will often survive a crash with no damage whereas the 450 won't. I am much more adventurous with the 130 than my other two helis and it is improving my flying skills, as a result. A friend was flying a trex 250 at our club today. It looked like a smart little heli. I assume that the 300x is about the same size. If it has reasonable crash resistance I should think that it will be a great little heli.

I found the 300X just as expensive to repair as a 450fbl. Crash a 300X and you might just as well crash a 450. They are nice though. I no longer have one, just the two quads, a 500 efl Pro Nd a 130X. I never land the 130X on grass normally (tail damage too likely at the lumpy grassed field. I stop and hover at 5 feet and TH it. Plops down on to the ground a treat. The last couple of inches the blades have stopped.

The major thing that the 300X has going for it is:- It is less intimidating than a 450 size when you are ready to move up in size (and it snuggles down into a backpack real easy ).

For me price is important. The 300X is a lot cheaper than the 450 version. A complete heli for around £200 is good. Interesting that it is as likely as a 450 to repair. I think noise has a lot to do with the intimidation factor. My 450 has been very noisy recently, only with the blades on. It turned out to have a nonexistant bearing on the tail drive gear. It was easy to find after the belt popped off. I was quite pleased with my landing. I was holding a hover though very low as something was bound to happen.

This was my main reason for getting one, yes parts are virtually same as a 450 BUT batteries are only £8 each. AND I can 'hide' it in my flight case with my 130 and the wife will never know lol.

Had it in a hands off hover in the garden for about eight seconds tonight (the 300 not the wife!).

seems like we are "partners in crime" to that respect.

You know how you can get your wife into a hands off hover in the garden ? Simply show her your 300X.
