  • Need help setting 300x up

    Hi Folks
Right I am at my witts end with this heli atm, after I rebuilt it after a crash I managed to test fly it and it all worked fine just a bit unsettled, I made a few adjustments while battery was plugged in and didn't realise the tail servo was at full tilt which burnt it out, over xmas I bought an align ds415m servo for it, after installing it and going through the beast x setup I took it outside and built up the throttle as I was just getting past midstick the heli tail started to wag violently 7" at least each way, now it just spins wildly out of control, tried lowering the gain on the tx from 77% to 65% with no change, I am still new to this hobby and am getting really frustrated with this problem as I have no idea on whats causing it. I did also try a ds76 cyclic servo on the tail with the same result. My lhs is of no use as he is a plank flyer and has no knowledge of helis, I really need someone local'ish to East Grinstead that wouldn't mind taking a look at it and helping me set it up correctly.

So if any of you are in the area and fancy helping me out drop me a pm or reply here, I don't mind paying for the help (beer tokens or cash )

    cheers

I have the same with my 300x currently, I'm new to the hobby like yourself and I rebuilt my 300x after a crash and now it flys all over the place, it only just about hovers but feels horrible to control.

Iv given up at the mo

Will look into fixing it soon but had to leave it, frustrating.

I know what you mean being a noob sucks, there are so many things that need adjusting and if one is slightly out it will cause issues elsewhere, thats why I ve bit the bullet and asked for help otherwise I will just end up breaking it further.

my fleet of helis are all out of action at the moment

The new 130x has swash tilt problem even though HH say its not a problem, I don't see why some 130x 3in1's have this issue and others dont, so thats going back to be put right

The nano cpx also has a 3in1 problem and wont bind any longer, kept having brown out and dropping out of the sky until it finally packed up, so that is also getting sent back.

And now the 300x tail issue is causing me grief.

At least on the bright side with them on the ground I'm saving some money from not crashing :P

Bring it back round one day and we can have another look at it together. It seemed to hover ok in the garden, has it changed since then?

            Alright mate,

Well, it sort of hovers but its ridiculously unstable from what it used to be, I flew my 450x then accross to the 300x and its is all over the place, I think it's just the set up James, if you don't mind I'd be grateful when you get some time

Probably just needs a few bits adjusting.

              Feel your pain there.

I had a 130x for 2 weeks, ended up returning it as I had a few problems with it.

I have a Nano I bought when they were relised which only binds when it wants too, I may look into geting it sent for repair.

ANT - the stock tail servo for the 300x is different to the cyclics (DS76 .v. DS76T). I'm not sure of the exact difference, but I assume the T version is geared differently for the tail. If the BeastX is expecting a certain speed of response from the tail - that could explain excessive wag I'd imagine.

Actually, just googled it, the DS76 is 200Hz, the DS76T is 270Hz, so more than just gearing it seems. Is the Align servo compatible!?

Found the comment below on this thread : Cyclic servo on tail? - HeliFreak

Pretty much all digital servos will work. But some will have wag issues, due to poor centring/acceleration properties. It will work, but maybe not well.

Looks to me like the Align servo possibly isn't fast enough for the job ....

                    Stock Spektrum tail Servo DS76T response speed : 0.03 sec/60° @ 4.8V
                    Align Servo DS415M response speed : 0.1sec/60°(4.8V)

Thanks for your input I did make a slight mistake when ordering the align 415m servo it should have been the ds425m that was ordered but hey ho, it should still work as it uses the same pulse length, I tried running it at 165hz but no difference, its not just a wag now cant even get the heli off the ground because of the violent spin. That is why I have asked for assistance I want the heli setup properly and dont mind paying for it, just cant be doing with sending it off and waiting would rather get it fixed and be able to learn something at the same time.

Once I have more funds for this heli I will buy another 2x ds415's to use as cyclics and a ds425m for the tail

Maybe it is the servo speed not reacting to inputs quick enough but people have used the ds76 cyclic on tail without issue, so I don't see the align 415m.

Guess theres no one in the area to help then

Did you manage to find anybody to look at it for you?

Also could I ask how old is your nano for HH to do a repair on it? Do you just email customer services?

No, no luck with anybody to help me get it working yet

I bought my nano when they first came out, I ve just emailed hh (sales@horizonhobby.co.uk) letting them know of the problem and Gary Braze from the service department told me to send it them for inspection and repair.

Is the align servo still responding to inputs on the ground? If the wag was too severe for too long you may have burned the servo out. Ide also go down to 200hz on the tail with a 415m servo.

Make sure you are actually adjusting the gain when changing the numbers in your tx! I don't use the gyro sense menu I just use the gear channel as the gear channel and just adjust the gear channel travel adjust to adjust the gain, if you are already doing this then you should be around 50 on the gear channel. A good check for the right amount of gain is to first power it up and wait for it to initialise, now move the heli by hand as if doing a slow pirouette, you want the tail to reach its limit on the pitch slider when the heli gets to 45 degrees, if it doesn't you need more gain, if you reach full travel before you get the heli to 45 degrees you need to lower the gain. Also when installing different servos you want to aim for a servo arm length that allows roughly 90 degrees of servo travel from limit to limit.

Next thing is to adjust the tail end points in the beastx so youy aren't over throwing the servo and binding it up at full throws. You also need to make sure the tail rod is straight and not being bent by the guides. Check for binding in general by removing the rod at the servo end and moving the tail mechanics by hand and check it's free and smooth.

You also say your heli is all over the place I presume you don't just mean the tail. Did you strip any servo gears when you crashed? Did you replace the main and feathering shafts? Is the tail shaft bent? Is the swash still level? Did you balance the blades?
