  • just my luck!!

Hi all, 2day i have received a 2nd hand 300x i have bought firstly to use while my 450x is going back to horizon, then possibly just to steal the ar7200bx from before it goes on ebay lol
I bought the heli under the impression it flew well and was perfectly usable, however....
Powered the heli up to find no positive pitch and loads of negative, 1st fix! The blades where also quite tatty so fitted some lynx that came with it
I got to the field and got the heli in the air and no.soon as i hit idle up the heli vibrates quite badly and banks to the right (just like the 450 it was replacing!)
I know it banks due to the bx picking up the vibration but does anyone know what is the most likely cause of the shaking/which parts i should be thinking of buying?
I have asked the opinion of the seller so fingers crossed this post will not be turned into a name and shame!
    Many thanks guys
    Dan

    Hi,

As both seem to display same characteristics I'd look at your radio. If it vibrates then I'd say some gain settings in your tx are too high. And for banking to the right make sure you have no trim on your tx. With flybarless units you should not use the tx trim buttons. Does it vibrate in the hover before you go to idle up? I'd check all flybarless unit settings and tx settings first before you spend money on parts.

The blades you exchanged could be badly unbalanced. Cheap sets suffer more.

In the event you have two helis that have vibration problems I'd look at blades, main shaft and it's bearings, tightness of tail belt. Vibration will be from some thing bent, worn, out of balance or high gain settings in the flybarless unit or to high/low settings in your tx. A servo could also be sticking due the gears being mashed.

The servos on the 450x are made of chocolate and in a crash the gearsets may need changing. The 450x main gear needs to be tightened evenly. The bearing in the stock motor will wear after 50-100 flights, tail belt requires adjustment everyso often. The 450x is an awesome helicopter and is what got me back into helis. Crashed it loads and it's been cheap to fix. Had all of the above and mine is still flying very nicely.

For the 300 I'd check I have no manual trim in my tx as these can easily be knocked. I'd re check the factory recommended settings in the tx from the manual

Buying 2nd hand is always a bit of a nightmare in helicopters. If from this forum look at how long they have been a member, number of posts and amount of thanks they have recieved indicating their input and knowledge.

Frustrating I know. Don't give up though as you will get them flying and will have picked up a fair bit of knowledge on the way.

Cheers bud, all of the gain settings etc for both helis are as per the manual for my dx8 and all trims are set to 0. Neither heli vibrates or banks in hover or normal flight for that matter but flick idle up and they vibrate to the point that the landing gear becomes a blur!
The blades i fitted to the 300 were brand new, i took them out of the packet myself lol on closer inspection last night i found a substantial crack in the frame on the 300.. Im guessing this is my main problem!! I have requested the seller (yes from.this site) just refund me enough to cover a new frame and bearings which i think would be fair. Canopy is also damaged but this was in the description so i expected to have to replace it anyway!

As for the 450, it flew like a dream until the main shaft failed whilst in flight (snapped at top bolt..previously uncrashed!)
Since then i have fitted all savox servos, replaced main and feathering shafts + bearings, boom although it wasnt bent, tail belt, tail drive gear and block, have tried 2 different sets of brand new blades (sab blackline and align 325)
I am to be honest fast becoming tired of my lack of luck with the hobby, i actually took pictures last night of everything ready for ebay
My helis all seemed to fly better a couple of years ago when they all got crashed regularly lol since my crashes have become alot lot less frequent its all gone to pot!

I did also change the main frame on the 450, theres not much left of the original heli anymore but for whatever reason the vibes have not subsided... Hence it going back to horizon!
The motor is also quite badly scuffed (presumably by the battery in a crash) on the 300, is it at all possible this could cause any problems?
        Appreciate your feedback dude thanks

An often overlooked source of vibes is the tail. Either the output shaft or blades. For a second hand heli though, first thing I'd do would be to remove the main and feathering shafts and check for straightness on a piece of glass.

Just to let you boys know, the seller did refund me a small amount to cover the cost of a replacement frame so i have to take my hat off to him for his fairness!
I actually glued the frame and added a small brace, changed the main shaft which was visibly bent!! New feathering shaft aswel and the heli flew really quite nicely, i was actually quite impressed with the 300! Happy days lol
That said i have since encountered another issue which i will raise in another post
                  Thanks everyone
