  • Is Dx8 tail mix with the 130x allowed?

I'm getting some tail blow-out on pitch pumps (nose left) so was wondering if I should have a play with the mix settings in my dx8. First off is it ok to do this with the 130 gyro and secondly, how? I've never played with mixes before so am a little in the dark. I'm assuming I need to add a collective mix but I only want it to apply to fast pitch changes as just normal flying around it all seems fine. It's only when I'm doing a bit of light 3d that I notice the blow-outs

Think i'll play with my tail gain first. Upgraded to a Ds35 and haven't upped the tail gain yet *whoops*

Ok, put the tail gain to max (+10) and the nose is still going left on punch out. Thoughts?

        Is it a new DS35?

I was reading up just last week on helifreak, and it seems horizon have changed them in some way recently and they aren't performing like the old ones.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

Is Dx8 tail mix with the 130x allowed?

Purchased in the last month from FL. I asked at the time if it was one of the 'new' ones that helifreak have been discussing and was told they know nothing of the problem. I believed the issue was one of tail wag but mine simply isn't holding. Either it's not fast enough or the gyro is screwed. I'm pretty pi**ed as I bought an xtreme and then a lynx servo holder (the xtreme one is made from cheese) as well as the ds35 extension cable. If the ds is not fit for purpose I'll be sending the whole lot back unless I can find a way to make it hold, hence why I was thinking about my dx8 mix ability

            Hi Storrm,
I use a DX8 but not sure if you can use the TX mixes for the 130.
As far as the DS35 is concerned, i have been trying to get the tail to stop its slight wag and occasional blow out with hard pitch pump & fast direction changes. My rudder gain is set at +10 at the mo, i've tried all gain settings (- & + )but at +10 it seams its the best i can get. I have the MH slider and a carbon push rod too.
As the HF forum say's, the new DS35 does not hold. It now seams the WK-03-4 servo is the one to use as it holds and works much better, i have one on order to try soon.
ps i put a pic just to show the servo fit and carbon pushrod.

Do you think the WK-03-4 will fit in a mount designed for the ds35?

Again.. only what i have seen on the HF thread the wk-03-4 can be installed with the servo mount kit (Servo Holder - Walkera V120D02S)HM-V120D01-Z-07 (bought separately) and also i believe the non stock CNC servo mounts can be used with a slight mod to the servo.
The servo also has to be mounted on the RH side of the boom so as to work in the correct sense.
I am still waiting for my parts from HK so cannot confirm if this mod is actually better.
My pic shows the DS35 mod, the servo does work but as i've said, it has a small continuous wag and the tail will 'let go' but not completely on some moves. I hope some of this makes sense.

Yes, makes sense. My DS35 seems to 'wander' ie doesnt feel locked in. On hard moves the tail will let go (not completely) but enough for me to have to significantly correct it with my rudder. I was told the DS35's were fantastic but my impression is that they are terrible and for now I'll go back to the stock servo only £45 lighter in the pocket (DS35, 2xbrackets, 1xextension). Steer clear of the DS35 unless you can get one of the 'original' models

The gyro gain will not make a difference. Try adjusting your tail link in favour to the opposite direction to the blow out. The is known as torque compensation.

Ahh ok, that makes sense. I'll put a longer gyro horn on and move the ball out and see if that helps. I'm aware of torque compensation which is what I was intending to take care of by using the DX8's mix ability

Yes it does. Mine fits the lynx ds35 mount same as a ds35 would with out any mods. I hear the MH mount for ds35 is the same for the WK-03-04 servo as well... It does need the wires changing over on the lead which is no big issue!

Best to mechanically adjust your tail then fine tune by using your dx8 if needed.

Storrm, maybe dont give up yet?
This my latest set up.. and it works..... i found a crack on one of my tail blade grips so i put a set of the RKH grips on the tail(i had them a while but never installed them) .
As my earlier pic... i have the small round servo horn on the DS35 with my DIY carbon pushrod.
I checked reset the mechanical set up, ie; TX to on- connect up lipo, THR hold on.... adjust servo along boom to get the tail blades neutral, (can fold back on each other to check both blades align with each other).
Set tail gain to+7. This set up works on my '130', there is still just a very very fine wag but now at the moment it is not continuous and, the left and right stops are perfect... its got that little buzz when it stops now.
I am not sure how long it will stay like this but the tail is great at the moment, its also quite windy here today but wanted to check fly again before i wrote this reply.
I am still waiting for the WK-03-4 but think while the tail is performing so good i will leave it as is..... if its not broke.... don't fix it!!!

ps. the only setting in my DX8 is rudder travel set to 140/140. absolutely no mixes on mine.
