Dissapointment with Fusuno canopy`

Hi

I just bought a fusuno canopy, it looks great but it wont fit the canopy mounts. The holes are way too small. They were filled with the paint work so I used a cocktail stick to remove that, then I gently tried to fit one side and the fibre glass paint job started to crack all around the hole length ways so I stopped!

I find this really disappointing as its not a cheap canopy and there's a lot of hype about these upgrade canopies. Sure they look great! But they have to fit without trashing the paint job, cant just leave it on the shelf as it looks good like a piece of art either, it needs to be practical as well!

I'm really not sure how to go further with it as the holes would need to be drilled to make them bigger and may as well get them big enough to add rubber grommets as they don't have any! Just got a horrible feeling that it will completely trash the paint job around the hole

All well back to the drawing board, may have to stick with the stock ones after all! I have another coming too from fastlads might just send that one back if I cant get it to fit with out cracking the paint job. Have contacted Fusuno, lets see what they say!

Had the same problem with a Canmod one on my 500. I just used a prop reemer to open the holes . I have the J Perkins one that's only 8 quid and its very handy '

After a chat with Midlands helicopters I just used a fast drill bit on it and made the holes big enough to add the rubber grommets! They were really descent about it saying if the mod bodged no worries just send it back! Worked out great, still got the fine cracks from the initial attempt to put the canopy on but now I'm happy enough. Will add some pics later...

All fusuno upgrade canopies come this way. You need to ream or use a dremel with a cone shapped bit to open up to your requirements.

Seriously? moaning about the holes not being reamed out on a canopy , and suggesting people should not consider getting one for this reason, i think you should edit your original post as this is pathetic.
Hint go buy a reamer, something you should have anyway.

well when you pay £20 for something you expect it to fit! Not need to be modded ok! Ive been in this hobby for 1 year and the only disappointment is with products being shoddy! Im a jeweller by trade and if I churned out stuff that then needed to be modified due to not fitting when it was made for that purpose then Id soon be out of business. I know the LHS are great but their suppliers are A*****les with there quality! If you cant see that then you must have put up with a load of rubbish all your life! So no I wont edit it! Its the only hobby Ive ever had where you can buy a brand new item that it warped, bent, split, broken, doesn't fit, breaks on first use, goes faulty after a while.... etc, etc, it really puts me off this hobby, and its clear its a huge money magnet! What's wrong in not accepting that something is just not on and speaking up about it! How else can you expect change! And I much prefer my dremel thank you just when you thought the rant was over someone has to fuel the fire...

I meant your original threads name, about being dissapointed, and then making out its a bigger issue than it really is, a begginer could be put off from buying one of these canopies because they assume its something wrong, when in fact its the norm to ream out canopies to fit you canopy grommits, i dont think comparing a watch maker standards to a rc heli is a fair comparison, do you?
You will be very dissapointed in this hobby if you think that watch making standards are to be achieved.
This hobby is also all about the building, and i say building NOT assembling of the helicopters, if you want to assemble things maybe get a hobby like building jigsaws, maybe that will be of better quality lol..

Anyone who buys a retail product should expect it to be of merchantable quality and reasonably fit for its purpose. I think it would be reasonable at least for the retailer or the manufacturer/importer to inform customers, before the purchase is made, that modification has to be carried out before the item will fit the helicopter for which it is being sold.

If you are drilling a hole in material like painted fibreglass, it helps to put a piece of masking tape over it to minimise cracking.

It looks jolly good though.

The trouble is there are so many aftermarket canopy mounts for every heli that if Fusuno sent them out with a ruddy big hole drilled through them they really would get complaints . Its an aftermarket item at the end of the day & a lot of these items need a bit of fettling , some canopys come with no holes at all for that reason . I guess if you want something to fit a standard 130x you are limited to a Blade / H/H , item , if you want Bling be prepared to do a bit of modification from time to time .

So why don't they just send you a mould, fibre glass and resin? Ive made canoes before no problem but if I send off for one ready made I expect to to be a finished product. The title is accurate and in no way tells a beginner what to do its an expression of my direct experience. If it is the norm, then why do the larger 450X have the correct size canopy holes with the rubber grommets?

derrrrr..... they are 130X canopys made for the 130X not for a V120 or a ace100 or any other model. Fusuno make every canopy according to the brand and size. There is no excuse for the finish, apart from clearly stating that this is an unfinished product that needs to be drilled and grommeted to fit your heli. They are sold as a finished item, which they are not!

But alls well that ends well, its drilled, grommeted and looks great...

Amen the end la fin and no jigsaw puzzles!
