120 sr to 130x ?

Thinking of buying a 130x to replace my 120 sr, a good choice of next heli?

Thing is the 120sr has a blown 5 in 1, and the tail motor has failed, so insted of repairing it i thought id buy a new heli.

If you've not flown collective pitch helis before then the 130x will probably be quite a handful. Personally I would consider an MCPx (not the brushless one) as it is cheaper and will survive the inevitable crashes better. I love my 130x but had already learnt to fly CP when i got it. Alternatively go for something larger and more stable and get some training gear on it.

Hi Garth, the130x is a full cp, the 120sr is not but you probably know this already, I personally love the 130 but it does require a huge amount of time in fixing it when you crash and you will do that quite often if your stepping up from the 120.
also you will need to upgrade gear cogs strait away, as they strip out without crashing. Plenty of posts on here about the 130x problems and fixes.
I personally got mine to use as a trainer so I could fly my 500 without to much dumb thumbs, having a msrx 1st then Phoenix.
The SIM wasn't floating my boat so moved to the 130. Crashed it loads I think the only part I haven't replaced is the mainboard, but I love it I can now Hoover tail or nose in slide left and right etc etc. And yes still crash a lot but repairs are cheap.
the only real downside that the 130 has got is its image because of the size its classed as a toy by many people. And believe me if you do get the little beastie its far from a toy.

I think it depends a bit on you. If you're a patient, take it slowly kind of person then the 130x could be ok. If you're a bit more impatient to move on and learn quickly, the mcpx is more capable of surviving the inevitable battering!

Personally I moved from a 120 to an mcpx and found that progression perfect. The 130x can be quite a handful.

Also, the mcpx can be flown in a reasonably sized garden. Realistically, the 130 needs a large open area.

Honestly, no, I dont think its a good next choice of heli for you.

For the money, I would buy the blade 450 3D, price has just dropped to around £130 new, as they are being discontinued (they are flybarred).

Much bigger, much more stable, and will allow you to get your hovering nailed.

The 130 is quite twitchy (its a small CP heli, they all are), and at your stage you need something stable.

don't mean to offend but as everyone is going to have an opinion but all we can do is advise I we were him. Yes the blade 450 is cheap now, but that's a whole different ball game to be honest. Repairs alone will be more time consuming, set a lot more complicated after crashing flybarred head setting servos etc.
I can strip down the 130 including splitting the frame and rebuild it again in under 20mins. No setup no blade balancing etc I have broken frame and tail in one crash 20 mins later I'm in the air again. Couldn't do that with the 450.
and I know that's the route we all want to go bigger better, but believe me when your heli is in a broken pile and your looking at 1-2 days of fixing, setting up compared to 20mins I know as a learner what I'd want to do.

I am with stevek32 on this. In theory, the Blade 450 3D is a better 1st CP heli. It will be more stable, easier to fly and it will handle wind much better than the 130X but it is a sea-change up on the 130X in terms of repair cost and time. In spite of it faults (and it has a few) it is still a great first CP heli though and although it breaks quite easily it is very simple to repair with almost no set up required. So whilst IMO jimmyhorns is right... value for money the Blade 450 3D is just fantastic right now, I would be cautious about getting one until you feel ready for the increased repair costs and time spent repairing and setting up.

Also, you can't fly the 450 indoors.

IMHO, although I don't have one, I would go for the MCPX over the 130X. The new brushless version flies every bit as well as the 130X from what I have heard and it is easier and cheaper to repair than the 130X. I have a MCPX non-BL and it was a great first CP heli after my 120SR. I still have both.

I have the 120 SR and I recently bought the 130x. Well I crashed it and its sitting on a shelve while I wait on parts. Its a really lively heli and to be honest I am thinking of getting the Blade 450 3D ( with training gear ) to learn on. The 120SR as you know is useless outside and the 130x a beast !

I do agree the 450-3D is a good learning heli. Hell, it was my first CP bird!

However, at the time, it felt like a massive step up from my 120SR. As it turns out, I quickly bought an mcpx too which brought on my skills and confidence much quicker.

The stuff I learnt on the mcpx, I applied to the 450-3D. As a pair they were perfect. Not sure I would have progressed like I have if I hadn't bought the mcpx ...

Everyone's different though! (get a Goblin 700! ... just don't forget the training skids!)

With the Blade 450 3D at just £130 then if you can afford it perhaps get both the Blade 450 3D AND an MCPX. I agree with Tom, the MCPX has allowed me to progress much faster than I would have with just the 450 alone and it is a great indoor heli too.

Thanks for the replys guys, strangely enough i did look at the 450 also, but looked too much heli for me, perhaps ill try and buy a used mcpx, and the 450 also if i can find some extra pennies.
