DS35 Servo Tail Mod - well worth it!!

After my stock tail servo gave up (would not stay stationary even when sat on table with heli doing nothing even after cleaning the servo tracks) made the decision to mod using the eflite DS35 micro digital servo.

1. Mounted the servo on the boom using a tail boom support mount chopped in two (only needed the screw clamp mounting hole bits)

2. Tweaked and rebent existing servo pushrod to match new alignment

3. Cut and shunt the old stock servo lead onto the DS35 lead (to give required length of cable and right plug for 130X mainboard)

Went off for a fly...serious tail wag, almost unflyable. Then tweaked the gyro gain settings as per

ended up lowering the gain the full 10 points that this allows to get rid off the wag.

Now flies superbly, with quick pirouettes (in both directions). Tail holds well and is quick and responsive. Tail feels not too dissimilar to my Trex 500 now, stops where you ask it and does what it was supposed to do.

If your stock servo gives up I would not replace it, splash out the extra few quid on this mod, you will not be disappointed. In fact upgrade your fully functional stock servo.

I too saw that but thought for a couple of quid I could just chop up a bit of plastic rather than spending a tenner on some lovely shiny bling..............Now that I am confident that the mod works I may splash out on a bit of bling. Trying to keep it functional at the moment (and the missus happy....lol). The white plastic holding the servo onto the 'chopped plastic boom clamp support' comes with the DS35 servo. As long as you are handy with a 'dremmel' (other tools are available) or in my case a junior hacksaw blade then it is an easy mod.

If you get the 'cut and shunt' servo wire join in the right place you can neatly hide it behind the cyclic servo.

I was looking into this myself the other day. As soon as my tail servo packs in, I'll be going down this road without a doubt. I'll probably go with the micro heli bracket and servo extension or similar, because I'm weak like that.

Now all the 130X needs is some decent white skids that don't break so easily.

Thanks ,just order one from Wheelspin Mopdels. When you fit the DS 35 servo do you have to turn the gyro gain down or can you just leave the gyro gain alone , I do not like fiddling with all that, something always go wrong and I can never seem to get it back to normal

Is it possible to reduce the throw from the servo by moving the link in? This should have the same effect as lowering the gain, hopefully.
