Front servo failure

hi guys, my 130x servo closest the motor stopped (elevator?) working today, looks like there is no power to it. How do i get it out and how do i test it? Do i need to take the whole frame apart?

Hi swapped mine last week as it failed yep you have to pull the frames apart to get it out bit of a poor design.

Will order a new one tomorrow but any idea how to find out why it failed? Worth trying to fix or just trash it?

Had exactly the same on mine today.
I just tested and it seemed to be the servo not the main board.
So I tried to twiddle it and it was stuck at one end - after a little persuasion, I got the gears to rotate a few turns, and now it works fine.
Maybe got dirt in the gears / feedback pot I think.
Seems OK now.

They can get stuck at either end in some rare cases. Give a clean etc as said if not new one isnt too bad!

once you have the servo out, dont bin it straight away ! the two biggest things that can stop them from working is a small stone chip or similar wedged in them or secondly grass dirt or hair has gone under one of the servo tracks, not too bad a job to open one up, as there is a few small screws that will allow the driving mech (rotary screw) to come away from the little pc board its screwed to, once screws undone gently pull the two apart, use a cotton bud with some Servisol super 10 this will allow you to clean the tracks and little spring fingers, go careful as you dont want to break anything further, then use a little squirt of servisol on the contacts and reassemble, chances are it should be good to go.

its worth cleaning the servos like this every 50 flights or so anyway, the servisol super 10 is not only a cleaner liquid but a contact lubricant too, and does not upset the plastic either, i usually give each servo a squirt every few weeks, then hook up a battery and run the servos fully up and down a few times,

its used to help prevent contact burning, and if used from new is great. ideal to use on the nano or Mcpx too, especially when the servos get chattery

Cheers guys not looking forward to trying to get the servo out as when putting my metal A gear on the screw head broke off so need to drill that out first. At first look I would say there is no power to the servo but it's not at the plug /3in1 end.

Yep, my servo was dead and silent.
Made the main board get hot though.
See if it is stuck at one end - disconnect it and twiddle the gears till it is in the middle of its travel, then plug back in and try again.

no need to remove the A gear

u only need to remove the skids and one servo to get 1/2 of the frame off, keep the main shaft etc in place.

just tried manually winding the servo up and down before powering it up, it jumped a few times and then got stuck at the bottom, with power on i just touched the servo gears and it jumped to center..... now its completely smooth.

I have already ordered a new servo but wondering if it just got dirt in it or maybe confused where center was. odd!

If its completely smooth now, I reckon it just needs a clean like mine did and many others have said.

glad its sorted, i have seen many of these little linear servos have dust or debris in them and cause that sort of fault

Ya. Those servos are pretty exposed and crud up easily. I had an interesting servo "flutter" which was solved by removing from the frame and giving a good spray both sides with contact cleaner and wiping the tracks on the back with cotton bud soaked in contact cleaner.
