130 tail vibrations

With all the talk around the tail vibrations issues, I thought I'd post a little vid of my 130x spooling up. Mine is 100% stock - no upgraded bearings, tail slider, tail fin, -- nothing like that.

The only "mod" I've made is to replace the bent tail shaft it arrived with, with another (stock, but straight) tail shaft. Then I've balanced the tail blades with a little bit of sellotape.

Just goes to show (I think) that many of these issues are just imbalanced tail rotors. Upgraded parts possibly mask the issue (or cause ejecting tail blades maybe!?), but balancing the rotors works a treat ..

A simple quick tip is to put 4 Orings on your landing gear, it stops it slipping on spool up.

There's a very good webpage on this here : 130X Tail Vibration Fix. I'd come across the "sellotape" fix some time before, but John Salt does a very good job of explaining the root cause and applying some science/engineering to the problem. (at least, IMHO!)

Cheaper option is to cut a little bit of nitro fuel tubing if you have any spare.Does the job great )

Nice but alot of us don't have any spare Nitro Fuel Tubing knocking about, so using the free ORings supplied is about as cheap and simple as it comes.

Having now seen quite a few people report different problems and solutions, along with stock side by side comparisons with one good and one poor example, I don't think it is just as simple as here is the one fix you need. Lots of the problems people are experiencing have the symptom of poor tail control/vibrations, but there are many reasons why that is the case. The trick is to find the thing you need to correct to fix yours. imho the 130x is a great heli - but with some pretty poor quality control on some parts you just need to find 'your' fix.
mine was definitely a really sloppy slider - having had it off now and looked at it it looks like god awful bearings/mounting to the bearings on it.
That said once you do find your fix... its an awesome fun heli....

+1 on that. your so right, i have seen all of these so far which could cause or agrevate the vibration.

1) tail blade balance
2) tail blade twisted
3) fouling tail blade grip
4) bent tail shaft to grip mounting points
5) bent tail shaft
6) sloppy tail pitch slider
7) broken tail pitch slider
8) poor bearings at rear end
9) poor gear/damaged gear C - D
10) poor bearings in TT
11) bent TT
12) missing teeth gear A
13) poor or wrong gearmesh A-B or C- D
14) tail boom pushed in too tight
15) fractured tail boom

there maybe more ! but dont be alarmed its no different to any other TT heli, just dont be driven in just one direction, keep an open mind if yours is displaying the vibration issue.

pinchofsalt is right you just need to find which one is upsetting yours, lots of people say dont worry about it, but IMHO its best to have a go at sorting it really, as it will eventually wear something out.

But critically, because I've removed the imbalance (bent shaft + balanced blades), then the vibration is gone - even with all that slop!

Adding uprated bearings and new sliders may mask the issue, but if you don't fix the underlying imbalance, there's the risk it will damage parts over time.

Its funny that when we fly the bigger heli's most of us spend some time balancing blades, clutches, flybars etc, so isnt it strange that a lot of flyers dont spend a similar amount of time on these little tiddlers, maybe Eflite may be partly to blame for encouraging us that the model is totally ready to fly out of the box ! !

Hi guys,

Having some issues with the dreaded tail vibration on spool up. Having seen some of the video of other 130x I'm looking to get mine vibration free.

So far I have tried:

New tail shaft x2
New MH tail pitch slider
New 'non e-flite' Flanged bearing x2
New stock tail box
New Tail pitch control arm
TT is straight and true but not changed
New C and D gears
New metal A gear
Various mesh of A/B via tail length adjustment

I have also tried to balance my blades with Sellotape, but this seems to make things worse, but the blades do balance well on a drill bit between two glasses.

Can any one offer any other possible remedies, she is still shaking like mad on spool up? Thanks

Have you checked for obvious faults such as a cracked boom or cracked main shaft? They are sometimes hard to see, but no bling upgrades would cure a major faulty or damaged part.
