I'm using the metal crown gear and all seems fine... I completely stripped the plastic one after a few tail first crashes (and rounded out the C gear, so the A gear dying didn't save anything)

I also ordered a couple of bags of just the C and D gears while I was at it - the little bags come with 2 of each inside. I'd rather just 4 of the C gear but oh well!

Lynx - I don't think so to be honest... the C gear rounds out easily enough that it acts as the damage fuse instead. If you think about it, there's no point in have a fuse on both ends of the torque tube... C gear is cheaper and easier to replace.

The other thing in favour of the metal A is that you can buy the C + D gears separately and cheaply, but you can only get the plastic one as part of a full set.
