  • Anyone still pouring money into their 130x?

Just wondering if there is a reason for it? I like mine for its lightness but my 180cfx is just such a solid machine whereas the 130x still needs so much looking after. That said I've just ordered a lynx tail servo for the 130 so still tinkering. You still working the 130x or are you ditching it or maybe you've upgraded the 130 so much it now works flight after flight? Let me know.

Ditched both of mine (I had two to try to always have one working) in favour of the 180cfx. I loved the way the 130x flew, but just couldn't keep the tail reliable enough for me. It was fine when I was a beginner as I asked very little of it ..

Must say mine is on its last warning I am practicing piro work at the moment and like the 130 for it for its lack of piro comp as it allows me to learn the art of corrections rather than the FBL unit doing it for me.

I hope I have finished pouring money into mine. I am still a beginner and every time I crashed I would replace the broken parts with upgrades. I now have an expensive c/f and alloy heli but it flies quite well. Keeping my fingers crossed, I haven't crashed it for weeks and nothing has fallen off it for weeks.

              It's a love hate thing

I only fly my micro about 10 minutes once a month if that. Got feed up of not evening getting 10 minutes of good flying as it's unreliability. Went and got a BL instead and couldn't be happier.

Got to say the 130 does piro, flip and roll better than most micros but any tail moves like funnels and it will let go. Whereas motored tails like the BL hold a lot better.

I will see if I can find a pic or two. In the meantime:-

                Lynx blade grips
                Lynx main shaft
                Lynx main gear
                Lynx 8300 kv motor
                Microheli c/f frame
                Lynx tail boom with bearing.
                Lynx extended tail boom supports.
                Lynx tail servo, cnc
                Rakon tail case
                Microheli tail pitch arm.
                Lynx tail pitch slider.
New bearings throughout. RC Hero o rings.
I have experimented with various blades. My favourite so far are the KDE main blades and Lynx tails.
                Lynx tail blade grips.
I have retained the original type of servos although they have all been replaced at least once.
I have made a couple of landing skids but they were slightly heavier than the standard item so I use that. I have tried various c/f skids but they didn't bend very well. After going through a few tail fins, standard and c/f, I made my own from scrap plastic.Click image for larger version

I've got the Red Bull scale version, which I think looks fantastic. Attention to detail is amazing for the price. On the basis that there are not many other decent scale models in that size I'd really like to keep it going indefinitely. So far I've only upgraded the bevel gear to metal, but I can see it's all a bit fragile at the back end! Been thinking of buying a few of the Red Bull specific spares, like the head, rotors and body, but I may even buy a second complete model if I see another on sale. I bought mine new for £95, which I thought was an absolute bargain.

How long do you reckon spares for these will be around based on HH past experience?

I hadn't flown mine for a while but got it going when I was home trying to master backwards flying. It bounces well that's for sure! :-) I've kept mine pretty much stock apart from a lynx boom which pretty much cured all my tail issues. Tried the metal bevel gear but couldn't get it seated right so switched back to plastic, flies fine, even with some stripped teeth.

I was tempted by the 180 but am very much at the messing about, crashing a fair bit stage with it so will hold off on the 180 as I think I could ruin it pretty quick.

I think the last mod I will buy (lol) is the Lynx TBS boom and supports, cause along with a fidgety tail the other niggle I have is the TT rubs the inside of the boom. Then that's it... Well maybe :-)

Wait until e.g. a plastic blade grip breaks, as a result of one too many less than gentle landings. You will have the choice of replacing it with a standard part with the risk that the same thing may happen again in 20 flight's time or spending out on a beautiful, shiny, strong, cnc alloy item.

I can resist anything except temptation!

So I added the lynx tail servo and the heli will now fly backwards all day, holds solid in backwards hurricanes and funnels - hurrah! Then I went on to my other major gripe and that's the TT rubbing the boom and robbing the heli of power. So I thought about making my own 3rd bearing mod then looked at the price of the Lynx TBS and realising I would need new supports either way, so bought the Lynx TBS. This is an amazing upgrade and has fixed that issue. MONEY PIT!!!Now I am on 135 flights - yes I log them - and the motor burned out!!! So grounded until that arrive - tomorrow yay... I ordered the stock again as I like the fitment and its less hassle.

Some words on 130x vs 180cfx...

                              1) Even with these upgrades on the 130 it still wont Tick-Tock very well, where as the stock 180cfx aileron and ele Tick-Tocks easy (for me Aileron are mental where as Ele it struggles - more on that later.
                              2) Far easier to work on the 180cfx
                              3) 180 has piro comp
                              4) Flight times are similar 130 has it by about 20secs though
                              5) 180 is about a 95% chance of damage (even with both TT and Servo saver mods) in a crash where as the 130 is about 30-45% (bearings will always suffer but you can often (7 times out of 10) pick it up and continue flying)

You might think that with that in mind the 180 wins... well here's my (MY) issue. The 180cfx flys and crashes like a 450 - and the Carbon Blades for good 3D performance start at £17 a pop! For me (again me) I have a very tight space to fly or a flying field - nothing in between. So for me the upgraded 130x (about same price as a 180cfx) is my tight flying space bird of choice. Not saying this would not change if I develop Tareq like fingers but for now with my lazy 3D I prefer the 130x when in small 5m x 5m outdoor areas.

So for a while at least I will continue to pump money into my 130x and enjoy it. The 180 will be relegated to the flying field and TBH given the choice of my 700 or the 180, I think the 180 will become a paper weight. That said I will keep it flying fit and see, as maybe, one day in my 5x5 area I will be able to nail it like a pro
