  • Noisy 120SR

I've just bought a 120sr 2nd hand. The seller stated it was in immaculate condition.

I've paired it with my DX6i.
When I flew it, it sounded very noisy kind of a fast clicking noise is this normal?
    My msr-x is much quieter.

Also it seems very sluggish to respond to control inputs compared to the msr-x?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I honestly can't recall if the 120SR makes a clicking noise. Perhaps post a vid.

Compared to the mSRX, it will feel VERY different - primarily because the 120SR uses a 45-degree flybar for stability. This configuration is perfect for a beginner as it gives "hands off" levels of self-stabilisation. Let go of the cyclic, and the heli will very quickly stop into a stable hover. Pretty much the same flight characteristics as a co-axial.

The mSRX in contrast uses the AS3X electronic stabilisation unit. The AS3X is used in other collective pitch blade helis and whilst it makes the heli flyable - it stabilises only against outside forces (eg. a gust a wind). The heli however is very nimble ... let go of the cyclic on an mSRX and it will shoot off and crash very quickly. You need to control the mSRX constantly to make it fly - much as with a full collective pitch heli.

In short, despite being slightly bigger, the 120SR is more stable, more beginner friendly, and therefore likely to feel more sluggish if you're used to the mSRX.

There is an "advanced swash plate" setting on the 120SR which speeds up cyclic response - but to be honest, it's a very minor difference in my view.

If you want something 100-sized that's a move upwards from the mSRX - you want the 130X, not the 120SR.

You'll like the 130-X. It flies nicely outdoors.

Check that your main gear and pinion are clean, just a small amount of dirt will make a clicking sound.

The noise might be normal. I've just checked a vid of my old 120sr, and it is quite "clicky" in the noise it made..

Check the main drive gear, possible tooth missing? Or two.

Thanks for the video Tom, mind sounds more clicky than yours.

I will look at main gear this evening, i'm pretty sure it wasn't missing a tooth.

It may just want a bit of lubrication.
