  • Problem with flybar alignment

I disassembled the rotor head, flybar and anti-rotation collar to fit new parts. Now when I try to reassemble I keep getting the flybar aligned parallel to the rotor! I know I'm being stupid but I can't see how to get the links aligned properly. Help please.

OK, here's the head assembly. The anti-rotation collar and the main rotor hub are new; just out of the packet. Comparing them to the old ones I can't see any difference in design.

You've got the links on the flybar paddle the wrong way around. ie. swap the links from the swashplate with the links from the head. This will put the flybar at a 45 deg angle with the main rotor head

This pic is an upgraded head, but it shows the correct geometry

A simpler approach might be this ... disconnect all links from the flybar. Then align the flybar at 45-deg from the main rotor head and connect those links where they line up. then connect the swashplate to the remaining links.

The links were never removed from the swashplate so they must be right. Therefore the upper links, because they were the only loose ones, must have been replaced correctly.

However, just to be sure, I tried your suggestion and it made no difference. Really appreciate your interest and advice! Many thanks.

UPDATE: Discovered the problem. The anti-rotation collar was upside-down! I hadn't realised it made a difference because it's not easy to see which way is up
Thanks again for the suggestions, Ken

Sorry, but the links from your head to your flybar are wrong as shown in your photo. Look again at the photo of a correct head that I posted. The links from the head go to the ball joints closest to the actual bar of the flybar. Your photo shows them as having the links from the swash as being closest to the flybar. They are the wrong way round! To re-iterate my point, below is a link to an un-modifed 120SR. Again, from the HEAD to the FLYBAR, the links clip onto the balls closest to the flybar. The outer balls on the flybar (at 90 deg to the flybar) then go to the swash.

Hi Tom, thanks for the photos - see my new pic attached. It was impossible to connect the links correctly when the anti-rotation collar was upside-down. Now it's the right way up you'll see that the links naturally fall into place.
                      Cheers, Ken

                        Perfect!

Top tip : before disassembling stuff (especially stuff bought pre-assembled), take photos with your phone before you start taking stuff apart.

Saved me when I tried to re-assemble my mcpx after a frame change!

Very wise - thanks. However, have a look at the anti-rotation collar. Even with a photograph and enlarged exploded parts diagram, it's pretty well impossible to tell which way is 'UP'! Needs careful thought and close examination to see in advance that only one way will work correctly: i.e. by envisaging how it will look when the locking screw is inserted through the main shaft. I never imagined for a moment that it would make a difference - Wrong!
