  • Just got a Beam

Today (Sunday) I flew my newly acquired Beam E4 again and I am liking it more
    and more.

It was a bit gusty and I expected it to be blown all over the sky
but it has a real solid feel even in windy conditions.

I levelled the swash on my TX when I got it and have not needed
to touch the trims or throttle / pitch curves / swash mix beyond
the basic ball park settings. It flies so nicely just straight away.

The thing is, it's not a radical departure in design from other common 450s but I tend to think that the smaller
the heli the more sensitive it is to even subtle differences. So coming from my Trex 450SE which was like
an angry wasp on acid, the Beam is so much more accurate and stable.

No pics yet but will get some soon.

The beam is a superb little heli, my lad wishes he had never sold his.
Only a couple of things to look out for, if doing 3d recommend you use the hardened main shafts, the others are ok but we had one bend in flight once, also guarantee if you crash it you will shear the one way collar so always keep a couple in your spares bag.
Also get 2 5mm nut runner tools, you will need these to get the main grips off, I got some from maplins

It's a great heli, very similar to a Dragonus 450 but without the issues of that model!!

Just to add, Saturday I took only two helis to the field, the Trex500 and the Beam. After I arrived I realised I had
left my one and only deans to XT60 adaptor at home! Doh! So that meant most of my Lipos for the 500 could
not be used. Anyway, the point being I got lots of flights on the Beam and it really is extremely good for
such a small thing. I am pleasantly surprised.

Really the only drawback to it is the visibility as it can so quickly become just a dot in the sky
                    when doing big aero moves.

The new Canomod canopy was actually less easy to see against a cloudy sky than the stock red and black
one. I think this may be the other way around on a really sunny day though and in any case it looks
                    great on the ground :-).

I keep seeing beam E4s for sale and its so tempting to get one and your posts are not helping lol. I think when I get some spare cash I may sell my 450 (it doesn't fly as straight as I would like) and trade up for a beam. First though I am going to put a 450 Pro head on it and see how it goes.

Yeah it's odd how there has spontaneously been a few pop up for sale. The thing is, after I got the 500 I really
started to wonder if I wanted to continue flying a 450 at all. My Trex SEV2 Frankenstein monster was flying
pretty OK, in a sorta manic fashion. I had setup one mix in the TX that corrected a bit of the swash phase
issue so it would roll pretty straight. But it was getting a bit tired (I still have it) so I wanted to try something
a few notches up the ladder and see if I would still want to keep flying a 450 in general.

I guess it's just the precision of the Beam and the slop-free head etc. but it is just such a massive
                          difference from the Trex.

So the point being yeah, I can really get some use out of this heli and actually practise the same
stuff I'll be doing on the bigger ones and it goes where you point it and also hovers very steady
even in a bit of wind. I am surprised to have such enthusiasm for a 450 after beginning to
think maybe I had just gravitated away from the little ones entirely.

But as far as I know there's no mad rush to get one as they seem to be available still. Unlike
the Outrage G5 which seems to have dissapeared.

The other ones I would have checked out would be the Phoenixtech TT360 and the
                          MA Furion.

Anyway, you're welcome to fly it if we ever meet up again at some point.
