  • Beam E4 Blade Grips

Had a couple of flights with my Beam for the first time on probably 4 months or more today and have finally decided to ask a question that has been bugging me ever since I've owned it.

Even with no bolts in, the blades in the grips are very tight and I've tried different blades - all been the same. Is this normal for a 450 size heli? If not, how have people got around it? Try to spread the grips apart a squidge or take a bit of material off the blade? Neither sounds a like a particularly good idea, but I'm nor sure if there are any alternatives apart from just leaving them as they are?

Hmm on my Beam they have always fitted fine Although I have had mine a long time and I don't know if the first batch ones differ from the later ones?

But like I said mine are ok, I'll ask some others what their's are like and see if yours is the only batch

On my old Beam only one of the grips was really tight.
I just opened it up a bit with a large flat bladed screw driver, worked a treat :-)

I have the same Steve .. The blade grips are tight, but some blades are less tight than others.. What I found is that the edges were quite pointy and left grooves in the blades.. But after fitting a few blades that are tight and flying it, the edges became a little smoother and rounded nicely and don't leave deep grooves anymore..

Ok, thanks, screwdriver has been applied!

Next question - what is a sensible (i.e. not too cautious but not reckless) value to set the low voltage cutoff to with 11.1V LiPos?

I think around 3.5v/cell is pretty sensible .. I usually fly 5.00-5.30 and am still within the 80% and (usually 3.7-3.78/cell).. The low voltage pulse never kicks in)..

The 80% rule is for discharge during the flight and I stay well within that anyway.

I'm more curious about the controller cutoff value under load. I've had a few dinks where the heli has just lost all power, presumably because the cutoff (LVC) has kicked in when the cheapie HK batteries have dropped voltage during flight. I can adjust the LVC on the Scorpion controller but I don't know what the default setting is, or what is a sensible value to set it at. The batteries basically work ok. I have now set the response to pulsing rather than 50% and have set the LVC to 9V.

                  Will this work?
