Scorpion 55A esc!!!!!!!!!!!

well what a crock of S"£$% this esc is, after my last one fried for no reason, just plugged my brand new one (only been used twice) in that Rob swapped over for me ( Rob) and there was a hiss followed by a puff of smoke from it, so this one has now been fried. I mean for god sakes how unreliable are these!!!!!!

yet another reason im grounded, this hobby is really starting to get me down now.

Is your motor OK? Did you have the receiver plugged in ? Battery polarity? (latter unlikley).

If the ESC had nothing at all connected to it when you powered it up, then thats real bad luck, otherwise I would suspect some external influence (unless there's a bad batch).

the answer is simple but it costs its called kontronik, buy it and for get all your problems

I agree.

Although you might have had two bad ones in a row I would very carefully check all your other electrics for faults before you fit another ESC.

I wouldnt plug servos or gyro into another model I would use a servo tester or an old receiver connected to a receiver battery pack (with a 2amp fuse if you have one handy)

the motor seems fine as far as I can tell, there has to be something wrong with my setup. it just cant be a coincidence.

I thought that these ESCs had clever protection against short circuits and stuff so this shouldnt really happen...

yeah thats would be great if you wouldnt mind. Ive just been speaking to Rob who also seems baffled. He is going to meet up with me next week to swap it for yet another but would like to know whats causing this.

I bought the heli f a fellow heliaddict on here so have no idea of the source of the electrics apart from the spartan gyro I added

Do you have any other radio gear.
Ideally a cheap receiver and servo from an RC car plus a four cell battery and a 2amp fuse.

Can you list the other kit that is fitted to the heli?

yep I have lots of rc car gear so I have another receiver. I dont have an 4 cell lipo though but have a 6 cell nimh

the beam has:
3 x hitec hs65mg
1 x futuba 9257
spektrum ar6200 receiver
spartan ds70 gyro
running 3s 2200mah zippy batteries4

Can you find anything with a 2amp fuse?
Using a fuse will (hopefully) prevent anything else from getting damaged.

When I said four cell battery I meant 4 AA cells, 6v output. Using AA cells is better as they wont supply the same amperage as a lipo or ESC so your less likely to melt things.
Most older RC gear would come with a plastic holder for 4 cells that will plug into the receiver. You need to make sure that the receiver us getting between 5 and 6v and definatley no more than 6v

Ok...

So the first thing to do will be to dig out some RC car gear.
You want an old receiver, servo and transmitter.
Plug the servo into the receiver and use the BAT port for the battery pack and check that the old RC kit works.

Then you can use the RC car receiver to test each cyclic servo in turn. You just need to make sure they move ok and nothing starts burning.
Then you can tst the 9257 in the same way.

Now we know that all the servos are ok we can test the receiver.

Plug the battery into your 6200 and bind it to the transmitter.
If it binds ok then you can plug in the RC car servo and test all the channels. Use the RC car servo as its expendable.

Now you can plug the cyclic servos back into the 6200 and check that they work (still running on the battey pack)

To test the gyro you can plug it into the RC car receiver and see if the HH light comes on. Then you can retest with the 9257 plugged into it (you might burn the RC car servo if the gyro is set to digital mode)

Then you can finally plug the gyro into the 6200 and test the entire lot together.

Obviously you need to unplug the battery every time you unplug anything or plug anything in.

If everything else works ok then the problem may be with the motor itself, I will have a look on the net to find out if there is a way to test a brushless motor.
